Picking colonies which are too small will result in under-inoculation and may cause a resistant organism to appear to be
susceptible. An alternate method of inoculum preparation should be used for colonies smaller than the wand tip.
23. MIC results for Abiotrophia/Granulicatella species, Aerococcus urinae, Aerococcus viridans, Erysipelothrix species,
Gemella haemolysans, Gemella morbillorum, Gemella species, Kytococcus sedentarius, Leuconostoc species, Listeria
innocua/seeligeri, Pediococcus species, Rhodococcus equi, Rothia dentocariosa, Rothia mucilaginosa, and Rothia
species are contraindicated for use and should not be reported.
MISLEADING RESULTS
CLSI Standard M07-A10 states that dangerously misleading results can occur when certain antimicrobics are tested against
specific organisms.
For enterococci, these antimicrobics include: cephalosporins, aminoglycosides (except high-level
testing for resistance), clindamycin, and trimethoprim/sulfamethoxazole. For Listeria spp. these antimicrobics include
the cephalosporins. LabPro will report the MIC only, not the interpretation, when the above listed antimicrobic/organism
combinations occur.
QUALITY CONTROL
The acceptability of the identification media and antimicrobial agents should be checked by testing organisms with known
reactions and MIC ranges. Refer to the International QC Reference Chart for Quality Control organisms and acceptable
endpoint results.
PERFORMANCE CHARACTERISTICS
The performance of MicroScan Dried Panels has been established in evaluations at several clinical laboratories. The
Antimicrobics were tested on a MicroScan Dried Panel using the Turbidity inoculum method and were read manually. These
results were compared to a reference microdilution MIC system.
REPRODUCIBILITY
Reproducibility studies were completed at multiple clinical sites to confirm acceptable performance with the recommended
methods described in the Procedural Manual.
WARRANTY STATEMENT
The system is covered by and subject to the provisions of the warranty included in your contractual agreement for the system
or its reagents. The customer is responsible for routine preventive maintenance procedures. Repairs arising from the failure
to perform these maintenance procedures at the indicated time intervals are made at the discretion of Beckman Coulter, and
at the customer's expense.
