DSP MODULE - GATE
Noise gating allows blocking signals below a defined threshold, which will normally be noise. It not only
controls whether or not this signal passes but also controls how quickly the signal is allowed to pass, how
long the gate remains open and how quickly the gate can be fully opened again. The doors can be used in
two ways:
-
To reduce unwanted ambient background noise. For example, in a noisy environment in an office
-
PTo mute the noise inherent in any audio equipment.
Its parameters are:
-
THESSHOLD: threshold value, the signal below this value will activate the gate and will be attenuated
according to the selected DEPTH value.
-
DEPTH: attenuation ratio to be applied to the signal when applying the gate.
-
ATTACK: reaction time of the door to open when the signal is above the threshold value.
-
RELEASE: reaction time of the gate to close when the signal falls below the threshold value.
-
HOLD: time the door shall remain open after the threshold has been exceeded. This value is important in
signals with rapidly varying levels.
-
ON/OFF: enables or disables the module. If OFF (disabled) the input signal is not processed and is
passed on to the next processing module.
Below you can see graphically the combination of the parameters, G.R. which will show the amount of
attenuation applied.
