structure with the travspring™, travspring™ One and
travsmart lifelines to be used and for what.
– Accordingly define the location of anchor points on
the installation plane, necessary depending on the
GB
calculated reaction (intensity and direction).
– Decide on the PPE to use in order to ensure
compliance with regulations and their compatibility
with the lifeline, given the configuration of the site and
the free fall space needed at all points in the area of
use. For the calculation of free or unencumbered fall
space, it must take into account the vertical deflection
of the anchorage (cable) points that might be affected
by the fall or an or several operators, in all possible
cases.
– Establish a description of the site area to be covered
by the facility and a description of the lifeline
installation to set up with all of its components, and a
layout plan, depending on the site configuration and
itinerary.
The implementation plan will provide areas to access
and connect to the lifeline that are free from any risk
of falling.
The preliminary study will take into account, where
relevant, the presence of electrical equipment near
the installation of the lifeline to ensure protection of the
operator in respect of such equipment.
This preliminary study should be transcribed into
a technical file containing a copy of this manual,
which will be handed back to the installer with all the
information required for its implementation. This file
must be constituted, even if the preliminary study is
carried out by the installer.
Any change in the configuration of the area covered by
the lifeline that may affect safety or use of the facility
should lead to a revision of the preliminary study before
continuing with use of the lifeline. Any changes to the
system should be carried out by a technician who has
the technical expertise to install a new lifeline.

In particular, they should ensure the inclusion, in this
study, of the regulations and standards applicable to
PPE and lifelines.
The installation of the travspring™, travspring™ One
and travsmart lifelines will be made according to the
prior study submitted to the installer. The installation
must also be preceded by a visual inspection of the site
by the installer, who will verify that the site configuration
is consistent with that taken into account in the
preliminary study, if the installer is not the author. The
installer should have the skills required to implement
the preliminary study in accordance with the standard
good practices.
Prior to achieving this work, the installer should organize
the site so that work is carried out in compliance with
safety requirements, particularly in terms of labour
regulations. Individual or collective protection should be
set up for that purpose. Checks should be run to verify
that the equipment to be installed complies in terms of
type and quantity with the equipment described in the
preliminary study.
6.2. Checks prior to installation
Before installation, check that:
1 The angle of inclination of the lifeline on all the
proposed route is less than 15° relative to the
horizontal.
2 The lifeline is located above the operator's plane of
movement throughout the proposed route.
3 The cable length is sufficient to cover the entire
route of the proposed lifeline and make the loop
in the corner unit and the loss due to cable sag
between the anchors.
4 The distances between anchors along the entire
proposed route of the lifeline are less than 15 m.
5 In the case of an installation on post: the posts
are made by Tractel

compatible with lifeline anchors.
6 All the necessary components are available in
sufficient quantity to ensure compliance of the
installation with the specifications of this manual.
7 The tools required for installation of the lifeline
are available and in particular the 19 pipe wrench,
a torque wrench fitted with a 19 socket, a set
of spanners 10-24, a cable cutter and a Ø 6 mm
stem. The tools required for mounting on concrete
or steel structure are specified in the fixing means
manufacturer's installation manual (anchors, bolts,
etc.).
8 The presence and legibility of all markings on all
components of the lifeline.
9 That none of the constituent parts of the lifeline
show any deformation and / or significant corrosion.
