IGNITION SPARK GAP

9 When checking the spark gap, do not
touch any of the connections of the spark
gap tester lead wires.
9 When performing the spark gap test, take
special care not to let sparks leak out of
the removed spark plug cap.
9 When performing the spark gap check,
keep flammable gas or liquids away,
since this test can produce sparks.
1. Check:
9 Ignition spark gap
Less than specification
check the CDI unit output.
Spark gap:
9 mm (0.4 in)
Checking steps:
8 Remove the spark plugs from the
engine.
8 Connect the spark plug cap to the
spark gap tester.
8 Set the spark gap length on the
adjusting knob.
Spark gap tester:
YM-34487/90890-06754
8 Crank the engine and observe the
ignition system spark through the
discharge window.
