INSTALLATION
 3. 1 INSTALLATION PARAMETERS
At least two persons are required for installing the Vi-Go system. When installing, all measures must be
taken for preventing the tools and system parts from falling.
The Vi-Go system is installed vertically on ladders.
The following parameters must be kept in mind during installation:
• Maximum cable length is 200 m (696 ft).
• Adequate cable tension. See subchapter "Installing the cable tensioner".
• Stability of the substructure.
• The maximum angle of the cable installation is 15° from the vertical.
• Maximum number of simultaneous users who are secured against falling by the system: 4 or less,
depending on the load-bearing capacity of the substructure.
• The installer shall ensure that the user can connect/disconnect to/from the anchor point of the
platform extension in a safe position.
  3. 1. 1 THE MAXIMUM DISTANCE OF INTERMEDIATE BRACKETS
To avoid damage, the intermediate brackets must ensure that the cable is not touching the construction.
If it is secured that the cable will not touch the steel structure, then the maximum distance of 10 m
(33 ft) for EN and 12 m (40 ft) for ANSI compliance can be used.
The intermediate brackets reduce and limit the deflections of the steel cable. The deflection of the
system depends on the total length and the wind speed. To provide additional safety to users, in case
of longer systems and regions with high wind speeds, we recommend the following distances between
the intermediate brackets:
• 4 m (13 ft), for systems up to 55 m (180 ft) long
• 3 m (10 ft), for systems exceeding length of 55 m (180 ft)
• 3 m (10 ft) if the wind speed reaches more than 130 km/h (80 mph)
  3. 1. 2 THE MINIMUM DISTANCE OF INTERMEDIATE BRACKETS
The minimum distance of 7.62 m (25 ft) is needed for systems that are required to comply with ANSI
A14.3.
 3. 2 TOOLS
Minimum tools required for installing the Vi-Go system:
• Allen wrench
• 2 pcs 17 mm (11/16") spanner*
• 2 pcs 19 mm (3/4") spanner*
• 10 mm (3/8") spanner*
• Torque spanner
• Heavy-duty/ratcheting cable cutter
• Adhesive tape for marking the crimping length
• Hot air stream for fixing the shrink-fit hose
*When possible, replacing 1 of the spanners with a ratchet wrench with an appropriate socket is
recommended for more comfort.
 3. 3 INSTALLING THE FALL PROTECTION SYSTEM
All fasteners shall be properly tightened according to torque-tension chart at the end of picture section.
  3. 3. 1 BEFORE THE INSTALLATION
Before starting the installation, the dimensions specified in the installation plan must be checked (total
length of the system, distances between cable ends and intermediate brackets, etc.).
Important!
Personal fall protection is required during installation. Persons installing the system must use caution
and shall not be exposed to a fall hazard during the installation procedure. Do not connect to any
component of a partially installed system.
  3. 3. 2 INSTALLATION PROCEDURE
Install the system components following this recommended procedure:
1) Install the top bracket
2) Connect the top shock absorber to the top bracket (if applicable)
3) Install the cable tensioner
4) Pass the cable through the intermediate automatic brackets (if used)
5) Prepare the cable ends
6) Fix the top of the cable to the top bracket (or to the top shock absorber, if applicable)
7) Fix the bottom of the cable to the cable tensioner
8) Install the manual intermediate brackets (if used) or fix the automatic intermediate brackets on the
ladder rungs (if used)
9) Pre-tension the cable
