5 Coupling

5 Coupling
The trailer must be coupled in a safe and
well-lit location.
The ground must be firm, strong and lev-
el.
Traffic must not be restricted. Drivers
and other people must not be hindered
or endangered.
Before hitching or unhitching secure the
towing vehicle to prevent it rolling away.

5.1 Support load

The support load is the force acting on
the trailer coupling of the towing vehicle.
– Ensure that the minimum support
load is at least 4% of the actual
laden weight of the trailer (sum of
unladen weight of trailer and load
weight). However, it does not need
to be more than 25 kg.
– Ensure that the maximum admissi-
ble support load for the towing ve-
hicle is not exceeded.
The support load specifications are lo-
cated on the towing vehicle:
– On a sticker at the rear of the vehicle
– On the vehicle registration document
(e.g. field 13 of registration certificate
part I in Germany)
Operating Instructions
Danger of skidding
Do not overload the trailer at the rear.
The load at the front of the trailer
should be slightly higher than at the
rear.
5.1.1
Hitching the trailer
1. Open the coupling completely.
2. Hitch the trailer.
3. Check that the coupling is firmly seat-
ed.
The coupling statuses indicate
whether the coupling is firmly seated.
Green or a + symbol indicate that the
coupling is firmly seated.
The colour red or a – symbol indicate
that the coupling is not correctly en-
gaged and secured. You must repeat
the trailer hitching procedure.
Additionally check correct seating by
pulling forcefully on the coupling.
4. Plug the trailer connector into the
socket on the towing vehicle.
5. Attach the breakaway cable.
6. Crank up the jockey wheel.
