Venting the metering pump

With an applied metering backpressure of > 0.05 MPa (0.5 bar), the use of a multifunction
valve from our product range is recommended.
NOTE
Otherwise the fitted ball cock (for recommendation, see chapter 7.1.1, "Installation
examples"Fig. 7.1) must be opened or the metering output must be released elsewhere.
Particular caution is required when handling chemical metering media! Metering media may
escape which may cause skin irritation, depending on their properties. Therefore, before
WARNING
venting, always observe the product datasheet of the metering medium to prevent any type
of injury!
To ensure an optimal suction performance, the stroke length should be set to 100% and the
maximum stroke frequency.
NOTE
In the event that pump has no suction or insufficient suction, the correct connection must
be checked.
WARNING
It is only possible to modify the stroke length setting when the pump is running.
When using a multifunction valve (see accessory range) for the venting, use the appropriate
operating instructions.
When using a ball cock (or another venting device), place a suitable collection vessel below the
venting pipe.
Press the Test key until the metering medium escapes from the venting pipe.
Hold down the Test key for a further 60 seconds to fill the pump head fully with the product.
Press the Test key again until the metering medium is visible through the metering pipe, until it
reaches approximately 2 cm in front of the inoculation valve.
Close the ball cock (if available/used).
Close the clear cover which protects the function keys, and seal it if necessary.

On startup, vent the system as described in chapter
If the metering pipe can be shut off, an overflow valve (safety valve) should be installed on
the pressure side, which opens at the maximum permissible pressure level, in order to
protect the metering line. This may prevent the metering pipe from bursting in the event of
an operator error. Under unfavourable conditions, the pressure may rise to up to three
times the nominal pressure.
After 24 hours or operation, the metering head screws are to be re-tightened diagonally with
a torque of approximately 3-4 Nm.

The metering rate is adjustable by means of mechanical stroke
length setting between 100% and 30% of the pump's rated capacity
(reproducible accuracy can no longer be guaranteed below 30%).
The adjustment is made via the stroke adjusting button and can
only be performed while the metering pump is in operation.
The capacity of the pump must be calibrated in order to determine the metering capacity
precisely. (see chapter
10.4
If no metering medium enters the metering pipe, repeat the venting.
