Sharing the printer
Two computers can be connected directly to the printer if you install an optional
interface and if each computer is connected to a different interface port. If you
need to connect more than two computers or if you need to connect multiple
computers to the same port, you can indirectly connect the computers to the
printer by using a switch box.
When multiple users are connected to the printer, you need to be aware of the
potential configuration conflicts that can occur when different users have
different print requirements.
The conflicts occur because Remote Control Panel settings are shared by all users
of the printer. Each time the Remote Control Panel settings are changed, other
users are affected. Therefore it's important to keep other users informed of the
changes you make. Also, if your printout is not what you expect, check first
whether any Remote Control Panel settings have been changed by another user.
If you modify printer settings from your software, the changes affect only your
print job. Except for Page Protect, changes made from your software application
do not affect other users.
Optional Cartridge
The printer has one slot for a font cartridge or an EpsonScript Level 2 cartridge.
With a font cartridge installed in your printer working in HP emulation mode,
you can print the many different typefaces it provides. Be sure the EMULATION
setting is set to LJ4L any time you use a font cartridge. After installation, you
should select the cartridge font with the FONT option in SelecType Level 1 or
use the printer driver. For more information on font cartridges, see page D-22.
When you install an EpsonScript Level 2 cartridge, you can select from a variety
of printer emulation modes that provide automatic switching between
EpsonScript Level 2 and another mode, based on the data being received. For
more information, see page 1-13.
Note:
If you install the EpsonScript Level 2 SIMM and an optional cartridge, you must
choose which one you will use from the SelecType Level 2 OPT menu. You cannot
use both options at the same time. For more information on the OPT menu, see
page 2-29.
