WARNING
It is the user's responsibility to understand this Technical manual and the individual products' Quick
Start Guide.
The safety of any system incorporating 301 series equipment is the responsibility of that system's as-
sembler.
301 series products must be installed only by trained personnel and service engineers.
Install all products in accordance with local codes.
If the package or any of its contents are damaged, please refer to the Warranty section at the back of
the manual for instructions.
Do not connect power to system or components until all wiring connections are complete and confirmed
to be of proper polarity.
The procedures in the quick start guide and the product's technical manual must be followed carefully
and performed only by trained personnel and service engineers.
Verify that power to the 301 Series product(s) and relay(s) is off during installation and when installing
sensor cartridges.
Install, service, and operate the product only as specified in the Quick Start Guide and the product's
Technical Manual. Failure to do so may impair the protection it is designed to provide and may also
void the warranty. 301 series manual and other information about this product is available on the Hon-
eywell Analytics website:
Calibration, set-up, and test modes are intended for use by trained personnel and service engineers
only. Access to these modes are password protected.
Follow local and site procedures when working with the device. When applicable, verify that the associ-
ated control panel is inhibited, to prevent false alarms during installation.
Use only Honeywell accessories/parts or accessories/parts meeting or exceeding Honeywell Analytics'
specifications.
Some devices require warm-up time. See the appropriate product-specific sections within this Technical
Manual to understand their unique requirements.
To avoid damaging electronic components during installation, pre-drill all mounting holes.

420-I, 301-EM and 301-EMRP: A dedicated power supply must be used with each unit. Considerable
damage may occur if this condition is not strictly met.
420-I: milliamp adjustment, Do NOT use Current Sourcing Configuration if there will be voltage on the
line.
Make certain that no two devices share an address as this may result in network conflicts. All sensors
are shipped from the factory as address 1. 301-EM; it is important to add one sensor at a time to en-
sure proper address assignment.
301-EM: If ManSW#1(or #2) was selected at the previous step this screen will only have 2 options:
Open or Closed. Set to Open if the output is set to Normally Closed, or to Closed if the output is set
Normally Open.
301-EM and 420-I: Analog output, the Output must be connected (to an ampmeter or to the DDC) for
readings to be viewed and adjusted.
