FIELD OPERATIONS
Tailgate safety devices
The safety devices, located on the tailgate opening
control hydraulic jacks, lock the tailgate in open posi-
tion, for a safer intervention inside the bale chamber.
A decal on both hydraulic jacks explains and details
their utilization.

IMPORTANT RECOMMENDATIONS ABOUT
Harvesting graminaceous and straw
With bulky swaths, make sure that the crop doesn't
wind up under the tractor, as, while the clogs are de-
tached, they could clog the pick--up.
In these cases, try and harvest the crop in the running
direction, with less friction, or fit a cloth under the trac-
tor to convey the crop correctly.
Adjust the windguard in a higher position, for an ea-
sier feeding, re. 1 fig. 24.
In case of irregular swaths, formed by stiff stem
crops, reduce the inching speed so that the pick--up
can balance possible overloads.
Harvesting light crops
On swaths with reduced dimensions, the crop can be
crushed by the bale weight; the pressure increases
more slowly and the density could be too high.
If problems like this occur: gather two swaths in one
or increase the inching speed.

OPERATION
Long stemmed crops
Long stemmed crops such as sorghum and maize, in
particular if too much dry (moisture below 10%) or cut
by a mower, can create difficulties in making the core
and crushing the crop.
In these conditions, it could be useful reducing the
PTO rpm at 350/450 rpm keeping the inching speed
unchanged.
Other adjustments that could prove useful:
--
decrease the set bale density.
--
Stop the PTO in case of no feeding.
Short stemmed and brittle crops
Even baling short and stiff stemmed crops, such as
hay or straw, problems can occur in particular if the
crop is too much dry (moisture below 10%) and if it
has been cut by a mower that doesn't work as a con-
ditioner.
In these conditions, crop crushing problems occur,
the bale is hard to be made and tends to become brit-
tle.
To solve the problem, it would be advisable to reduce
the PTO rpm at 350/450 rpm, keeping the inching
speed unchanged.
Other adjustments that could prove useful:
--
decrease the set bale density.
--
Stop the PTO in case of no feeding.
Bale in the morning or at night, when the crop is wet-
ter.
In these hours, the crop is softer and stronger, thanks
to the moisture increase.
Unclogging
DANGER: in case of cloggings, stop the PTO,
switch the tractor off and remove the key from
the dashboard. Remove all the tools used for
unclogging before restarting the baler.
When, in particular situations, a clogging occurs, pro-
ceed as follows:
--
move the baler out of the swath to work in a free
area.
--
switch the engine off and release the (tractor)
parking brake.
--
Manually remove the crop coming out from the
pick--up. If the operation proves insufficient, open
the tailgate and remove the crop from inside the
chamber. This crop can then re--pressed after re-
moving the clogging.
