3
Loosen the screws, re. 1 and 2 fig. 17, then align
the steering shaft to the tractor tow coupling.
Tighten the screws, re. 2 and the screw, re. 1, at
the tightening torque of 525 ± 10% Nm.
4
Move in reverse at low speed, reaching the hook
-- eyelet connection; stop the tractor, engage the
parking brake, switch the tractor off and remove
the keys from the dashboard before getting off
and engage the coupling pin tightening it by the
suitable split pin.
NOTE: the balers for French market, due to type- -ap-
proval reasons, are equipped with an additional steel
cable, re. 5, fig. 17, that must be fastened to the trac-
tor pin with the steering shaft eyebolt.
DANGER: risk of shocks and squeezing. Du-
ring the baler steering shaft adjustment opera-
tions, check that no one is standing between
tractor and baler.
IMPORTANT: remember to remove the possi-
ble wedges under the wheels before moving
the tractor/baler assembly.
5
With coupled machine, the steering manoeuvres
can be made (without rotating the universal
joints) with a max. angle of 70_ without interfe-
rences between steering shaft and rear wheels of
the tractor, as shown in fig. 42.
With rotating universal joint, this angle must be
reduced to 35_, see fig. 42.
UNIVERSAL JOINT CONNECTION TO THE
TRACTOR PTO
IMPORTANT:The universal joint connection
to the tractor PTO must be made when the
tractor engine is off and the tractor/baler as-
sembly is braked and stable.
ATTENTION: carefully read and follow the in-
structions of the Operator's Manual enclosed
to each universal joint, too.
The universal joint, with CE marking, must be correc-
tly connected to the PTO, complying with the rotation
direction, fastening the check devices (chains) and
the required fixed safety devices and guards.
DANGER: risk of winding due to an incorrect
protection of the PTO shaft.
The clearance between tractor PTO and baler stee-
ring shaft coupling pin center must be 30--40 cm.
With tractor coupled to the baler, make sure that the
length of universal joint telescopic shafts is correct,
to ensure a minimum overlapping, corresponding to
half the length of telescopic shafts.
Check that in the shortest working position the tele-
scopic shafts do not come back completely.
If the clearance, re. 1 fig. 18, is shorter than 40 mm,
the universal joint must be shortened.
After connecting the tractor to the baler, check
that: the length of the universal joint telescopic shafts
is correct, to get a minimum overlapping, correspon-
ding to one third of the telescopic shaft length (see
fig. 44).
HOW TO SHORTEN THE UNIVERSAL
JOINT - - Fig. 18
CAUTION: handle all parts with the utmost ca-
re. Do not put hands and fingers between
parts. Wear the prescribed safety clothing,
such as goggles, gloves and safety shoes.
1
Take out the universal joint front half.
2
Remove the universal joint half part coupled to
the baler.
3
Approach the two parts of the universal joint and
mark the part of the guard to be removed (if the
universal joint must be shortened by 40 mm, you
should remove 40 mm from each of the two tele-
scopic pipes), re. 1.
4
Cut the guard parts, re. 2, and use them as index
to shorten the two telescopic shafts in the same
way, re. 3.
5
Grind the edges of the pipes, remove possible
grinding residues (re. 4) and grease the telesco-
pic pipes carefully.
NOTE: carry out this operation with the ut-
most care, as, if the telescopic shafts are
shortened more than required, the universal
joint must be replaced.
WARNING: no other modifications are allo-
wed to the universal joint shaft and/or its
guards.
