Operating at extreme ends of pH and temperature ranges will have a
significant impact on column lifetime.
Operating Guidelines: HILIC
• Agilent HILIC columns are shipped containing acetonitrile:water or
acetonitrile.
• Care should be taken not to exceed column pressure limits, especially
when changing mobile phase compositions.
• Agilent HILIC columns are compatible with water and all common organic
solvents.
• Buffer should be mixed in small amounts, and refreshed often to prevent
microbial growth.
• Eluents containing volatile acids (formic, acetic) or bases (ammonia)
should be sealed tightly.
• All silica has some solubility in pH >6 aqueous mobile phases. Solubility
of the silica is also increased at elevated temperatures. Using the
ZORBAX RRHD HILIC Plus or InfinityLab Poroshell 120 HILIC columns
above pH 6 and 40 °C will reduce the column lifetime.
