14. Service life
TRACTEL

equipment such ascaRol™ winches can be used on
condition that, from their date of manufacture onwards,
they are:
• used
normally,
in
recommendations given in this manual.
• inspected periodically at least once a year by an
approved and competent technician. On completion
of this periodic inspection, it must be certified in writing
that the equipment is fit to be returned to service.
• stored and transported in strict compliance with the
conditions indicated in this manual.
15. Disposal
When disposing of the product, all components
must be recycled by firstly sorting them into metallic
and synthetic materials. These materials must be
recycled by specialist organisations. During disposal,
dismantling in order to separate the components should
be undertaken by a suitably trained person.
2 - Using the caRol™ winch for load
lifting in accordance with directive
2006/42/EC:
Load lifting operation performed using the caRol™
winch:
DANGER: the caRol™ winch cannot be used
as a load lifting device when the tracpode™ is
being used:
• As a fall-arresting anchor point
• As a rescue system
• As an anchoring system for a person working
while suspended using a rope

• As an anchoring system for rope access work
Rope access work enabled by the caRol™ winch:
The caRol™ winch may be used as a rope access
and positioning system in accordance with directive
2001/45/EC of the European parliament, of 27 June
2001.
Conditions to satisfy when implementing rope
access and positioning techniques.
The system must consist, as a minimum, of an access
rope (or a cable) (e.g. provided by a caRol™ rescue
winch, a descending device, an ascending device)
which provides a means of access, raising or lowering
and support, and a safety rope (or cable) fitted with a
fall-arrest system (a fall-arrester on a flexible belaying
support such as Stopfor™ or a Blocfor™ self-retracting
fall arrester). These two ropes (cables) must be secured
independently to two anchor points in accordance with
standard EN795 or to an anchor point whose load
bearing capacity has been assessed and found to be
satisfactory by the employer or by a competent person.
Operators using the rope access and positioning
technique must wear and use a suitable fall-arrest
harness which must be attached to both the safety rope
and to the access rope.
