• Check that the caRol™ winch's leg bracket is securely

attached to one of the legs of the Tractel
(refer to § 4.2.1)
• Check the condition of the cable along its entire
length: it must not show any signs of kinks, abrasion,
corrosion or broken wires.
• Check the condition of the metal structure of the
caRol™ winch (no deformation, screws in place, etc.).
• Check the operation of the caRol™ winch by turning
the winder in the "raise" direction and then in the
"lower" direction.
• Check the condition and operation of the connector:
there should be no corrosion or visible deformation
and it should be possible to open, close and lock it.
• Check the condition of the associated components:
Anchor point provided by the Tractel
harnesses and connectors. Refer to the manuals
specific to each product.
• Check the complete rescue lifting system.
4. Functions and description
4.1. CaRol™ 20 m/30 m
The caRol™ winch is a rescue lifting device (lifting
only) (EN 1496 class A): it allows a rescuer to rescue
an operator by raising him or her to safety. It is used in
an inclined position when secured via its leg bracket to
a Tracpode.
• The caRol™ winch is fitted with a Tractel
steel cable, 20 or 30 m long.
• The caRol™ winch is used with a specially-designed
leg bracket via which it is secured to one of the legs of
the Tractel
tracpode™ whose minimum load bearing

capacity is 15 kN.
4.2.1 Installing the caRol™ winch on the Tractel
Tracpode™
1. - Remove the locking pin and then position the
caRol™ winch at the required height on the
tracpode™ (there are 3 possible positions). For this
operation, refer to the manual specific to the Tractel
tracpode™.
2. - Push the locking pin through the holes in the leg
bracket and in the Tractel

4.2.2 Fitting the cable around the cable guide pulley on
the Tractel
1. - Remove the cable guide pin
2. - Run the cable from the caRol™ winch over the
pulley and then down through the centre of the head
of the Tracpode™.
3. - Refit the cable guide pin to prevent the cable
jumping off the pulley.

5.1. Rescue operation performed using
the caRol™ winch

A second person must be available nearby to
perform a rescue operation if required.
The necessary rescue operations must be studied
®
and assessed in advance to define the human
resources and equipment required to rescue an
operator in need of rescue in less than 15 minutes.
Any period longer than this will endanger the
operator in need of rescue.
For rescue operations, the use of a comfortable
harness or a harness fitted with EN 1497 rescue straps
