4.1.6 Particular points when removing the drill

• Before removing the drill, stop the engine.
• Remove any accumulation of swarf from around the drill, using a hook (but never the bare hands).
• Undo the two screws ①.
Grip the drill ② and take it off the spindle ③.
WARNING: As a precaution, always use gloves (or rags) to avoid injuring the hands on swarf which has accumulated around the drill, or suffering
burns from the drill, which remains very hot for several minutes after drilling a hole.
If the drill becomes jammed on the spindle (due to oxidation or overheating), follow the procedure described below:
- Remove the two clamping pieces by proceeding in the reverse
order to the procedure described in § 3.4 "Fitting the clamping
pieces" if required.
- Immobilise the spindle by means of a 32 mm flat spanner on the
flats ④ provided for the purpose.
- Grip the drill ② using a spanner and turning it in the opposite
direction to the force applied to the spanner.
- Once the drill starts to turn in the spindle, place a screwdriver
between the drill and the spindle and use it as a lever to remove the
drill.
