4.1.2 Starting and stopping the machine

Refer to the engine manufacturer's documentation to determine the position of the controls to be operated for starting and
stopping the engine.
Positions of the starting lever ①.
0
= Engine stop – ignition off.
= Normal running position – the engine runs or can be started.
To move the starting lever ① from position
= Cold starting – position for starting a cold engine.
Starting:
➊ Check that the remote engine starting lever ② is in position 1 (see Fig. 2).
➋ Bring the accelerator lever ⑤ to the "fast" position (forwards to the maximum stop).
➌ Adjust the starter lever ① (see Fig. 1) according to the ambient temperature and engine temperature:
- if the engine is cold, set the starter lever to
- if the engine is hot, position the universal lever to
but is still cold, or if a very hot engine has been stopped for less than 5 minutes.
➍ To make engine starting easier, a number of positions can be adopted to remain stable: upright, bending forward
or on the knees. Hold the carrying handle ③ in the left hand. With the right hand, pull the starting grip ④ slowly
upward until you feel the compression, then give a sharp pull. Never pull out the whole length of the rope. Do not
release the grip and allow it to return suddenly, but bring it back by hand in the reverse direction to allow the rope
to wind up correctly. Never wrap the starter rope around your hand.
➎ After the first pull, position the starter lever ① to
the engine is running, bring the accelerator lever ⑤ back slightly to allow the engine to warm up.
➏ Bring the accelerator lever ⑤ to the "slow" position (back) and leave the machine to run for 30 seconds before using it.
Stopping the engine:
➊ Reduce the engine speed by bringing the accelerator lever ⑤ to the "slow" position (back).
