3.8 Placing the machine on the rail

-
To avoid damage to the drill, check first that the spindle is in the rearward position (drill withdrawn). Then use the
carrying handle ① to place the machine on the rail, without locking the clamp (see Fig. 1).
- Horizontal position
With drilling template: place the positioning lever ② in the notch Ⓐ of the template corresponding to the
hole to be drilled (see Fig. 2).
Without drilling template: align the notch in the positioning lever ② with the line marked previously (cf.
§ 3.7 "Marking the drilling axis")
- Vertical positioning:
Vertical positioning takes place automatically by fitting the taper clamps into the web of the rail (see
Fig. 3)
.
To do this, check that the taper clamps ③ (left and right) correspond to the type of rail to be drilled
(cf. § 3.4 "Fitting taper clamps"). Check also that the machine is correctly perpendicular to the rail.
- Tightening a rapid-action clamp
Lower the locking lever ⑤ to engage the nut ④ in the clamp lever ⑥ (see Fig.3)
Operate the locking lever ⑤ to bring the movable jaw ⑦ into contact with the rail web.
Tighten the locking lever ⑤ hard by hand.
Tightening the clamp is a very important stage in the drilling operation. It ensures that
the drilling machine is correctly held on the rail for high-quality drilling. If the machine is not held
correctly, the drill may crack or even break during the work.
