SAFETY
OPERATING SAFELY
In general:
1. Do not change engine governor settings or
overspeed the engine.
2. Do not carry passengers, especially small
children. They may fall off and be seriously
injured or interfere with safe operation.
3. Use extra care when loading or unloading ma-
chine to a trailer or truck.
4. Do not transport with the cutting mechanism
rotating.
5. Obey local traffic laws and be careful when
operating on or near roadways.
6. Never run machine in an enclosed area.
7. Never place your foot on the ground while
operating machine.
8. Do not pass or stand on the grass discharge side
of any mower with the engine running. Never
direct the discharge towards any bystanders.
Stop operation if someone approaches.
Stopping:
1. Turn off blades when not mowing.
2. Do not stop suddenly with the cutter decks in the
raised position.
3. If an object is struck, stop and shut off the
engine. Wait for cutter blades to stop rotating.
Check for damage and replace any damaged
parts before continuing.
4. Whenever leaving the machine:
– Disengage PTO.
– Shut off the engine and remove key.
– Set parking brake.
Children:
1. Keep children out of the mowing area and under
the watchful care of another responsible adult.
2. Be alert and turn machine off if children enter
area.
3. Before and when backing, look behind and down
for small children.
4. Never allow children to operate the machine.

SAFETY AND OPERATORS MANUAL
MANEUVERING SAFELY
In general:
1. Slow down before turning.
2. Disengage power to mower before backing up.
Do not mow in reverse unless absolutely neces-
sary and then only after observation of the entire
area behind the mower.
3. Use extra care when approaching blind corners,
shrubs, trees or other objects that may obscure
vision.
4. Watch for holes, rocks and roots in the terrain
and other hidden hazards.
5. Be alert to dips and rises in the terrain. Avoid
ground conditions that may cause the machine
to slide.
6. Do not mow near drop-offs, ditches or embank-
ments.
Use special care on slopes
1. Do not start or stop suddenly when going uphill
or downhill.
2. Keep even foot pressure on pedal when pro-
ceeding forward downhill.
3. Do not use grass catchers or other large attach-
ments on slopes.
4. With ride-on machines, always move up and
down slopes, not across.
5. Never attempt any maneuvers on a slope with
any of the cutter decks in the raised position.
6. Cease operation immediately if the operator
becomes uncomfortable or unsure of the
machine's stability on a slope.
7. Stay away from slopes if caught in the rain
during mowing or if the ground is loose. Make
smooth, non-erratic maneuvers to maintain
stability.
8. Use lower speeds and drive more cautiously on
slopes, especially when turning, to prevent
tipping and loss of control.
9. Experienced operators may be able to operate
the machine safely on greater slope angles. The
ultimate responsibility for safe operation on
slopes rests with the operator.
