OPERATION
STARTING THE ENGINE
1. Set the throttle lever in the middle of its range.
Ensure the PTO is disengaged and the neutral
latch not depressed.
2. Turn the ignition switch clockwise to the glow
plug symbol and hold for 5-10 seconds.
3. Then, turn ignition key fully clockwise to the
start position to start the engine.
4. Release the key when the engine starts and it
will return to the "run" position automatically.
5. Repeat steps 2-4 if engine does not start,
increasing the preheat time to 10-15 seconds.
TO STOP THE ENGINE
1. Disengage the PTO drive to the cutting mecha-
nism.
2. Set the parking brake.
3. Move the throttle control lever to the "slow"
position.
4. Turn the ignition key to the "off" position to stop
the engine.
CUTTING GRASS
1. The operator must be in the seat to engage the
PTO or to operate the forward/reverse
footpedal.
2. Lower the cutterdeck.
3. Engage the cutting mechanism by pulling the
PTO control switch until it snaps into position.
4. Release the brake(s) and gently depress the
upper part of the forward/reverse footpedal for
forward running. Always keep the foot firmly
on the footpedal—too relaxed foot control may
result in a jerky motion.
5. Do not operate the machine in heavy grass
with less than full throttle, as this could result in
excessive wear. To reduce engine laboring,
reduce the speed with the forward/reverse
footpedal.
6. For reverse, gently depress the rear part of the
footpedal with the heel.

SAFETY AND OPERATORS MANUAL
NOTES:
Use the whole foot to control both forward and
reverse directions. Make sure neutral latch
remains depressed.
Always operate the forward/reverse footpedal
slowly and smoothly. Never move it suddenly
or violently between the forward and reverse
positions.
The foot pedal heel plate can be removed by
taking out two screws from the bottom side.
For some operators, it will be more comfort-
able when removed.
TO SLOW DOWN OR STOP
Move the footpedal slowly toward neutral. When
the machine stops, apply the brake.
TRAVERSING A CURB
Approach the curb to be mounted with the
cutterdeck raised, slowly and at an angle.
PUSHING THE TRACTOR WITH THE ENGINE
STOPPED
A tow valve on the right side of the traction drive
pump can release hydraulic pressure for towing.
Lock nut Q must be loosened with an open end
wrench, then held while hex stud S is backed
out 3-4 turns.
To restore pressure for normal operation, turn
the hex stud fully in, then re-tighten the lock
nut.
Do not loosen or remove the tow valve body R.
Limit towing to 2-3 mph.
