EN 14846 Electromechanically operated locks and striking plates
The properties of electromechanical locks and striking plates are described by the nine-digit classification
key according to EN 14846.
Tab. 1 explains the classification key.
Class Meaning
3 For use by the public, where there is little incentive to take care and there is a high likeli-
hood of misuse, such as in doors in public buildings.
S 200,000 test cycles
6 Door mass over 200 kg, as defined by the manufacturer
C Suitable for use in fire and smoke protection doors with a classification time of 30 min
– No security requirements
L High corrosion resistance
6 Very high protective effect and no drilling resistance
1 Status display: Signal shows that the dead bolt is fully extended and locked
3 Resistance to electrostatic tampering: Protection against power failure, the effects of
cables being cut through and the impacts of wire manipulations, resistance to electro-
magnetic tampering, electrostatic discharge, electrostatic tampering
