L'installation d'une soupape de non-retour dans la conduite
d'arrivée d'eau de mer, située sous la ligne de flottaison,
permet de limiter un peu ce problème.
Le tuyau d'eau de mer devrait former une boucle aussi près
que possible de l'entrée (cf. fig. ci-dessous) afin que la pompe
n'aspire de l'air que très brièvement. L'eau de mer lubrifie
l'hélice et en prolonge ainsi la vie.

AVIS:
On ne doit, en aucun cas, changer d'hélice pendant des années
et laisser toujours la même pompe. Quand le joint d'étanchéité
est défectueux, à l'intérieur de la pompe, l'eau de mer peut
s'infiltrer dans le moteur. La réparation est alors fort coûteuse.
La pompe devrait donc être remplacée de temps en temps.
En plus des hélices, un pompe de rechange devrait toujours
être à bord. La vieille pompe peut être retournée à ICEMASTER
où elle est soumise à une révision générale, à peu de frais.

You can constrain this a little with the installation of a non
return valve in the seawater supply hose which is under the
waterline.
The seawater hose should be describe a loop as near as can
to the seawater inlet of the generator (see picture below) with
it the pump only suck in air for a short time. With the seawater
the impeller will be lubricate and the life time will rise.

NOTE:
It is not allowed to change the impeller for years and the old
pump is not changed. If the gasket inside the pump is defect
seawater will run into the engine. These repair is very expen-
sive.
You should change the pump from time to time.
You should also have spare impellers and a spare pump every
time on-board in stock. The old pump can be send to
ICEMASTER where she will be reconditioned low-cost.
