24 Inspection and Maintenance
24.1
Inspection and Maintenance Chart
Always remove the battery before carrying out any inspection, cleaning or maintenance.
The following maintenance intervals are examples and apply for normal
operating conditions. Actual use and your experience will determine the fre‐
quency of required inspection and maintenance.

Inspecting and Maintaining the
Trimmer / Brushcutter
WARNING
■ To reduce the risk of personal injury from unin‐
tended activation, remove the battery before
inspecting the trimmer / brushcutter or carrying
out any maintenance,
To properly maintain the trimmer / brushcutter:
► Replace a worn deflector, mowing head or
metal cutting attachment.
► Have worn, missing or damaged safety labels
replaced by an authorized STIHL servicing
dealer.
24.3
Lubricating the Gearbox
WARNING
■ The gearbox becomes hot during operation.
To reduce the risk of burn injury, avoid con‐
tacting the gearbox while it is still hot following
operation. Wait for the gearbox to cool down
before performing this operation.
To lubricate the gearbox:

► Remove the screw plug (2).
► If no grease can be seen on the inside of the
screw plug, screw the tube (1) of STIHL gear
lubricant into the filler hole.
► Squeeze no more than 0.2 oz. (5 g) of STIHL
gear lubricant into the gearbox.
► Remove the tube of STIHL gear lubricant.
► Insert the screw plug and tighten it.
NOTICE
■ Do not completely fill the gearbox with grease.

Replacing the Trimmer Line on
an AutoCut 25‑2 Mowing Head
WARNING
■ Use of wire or metal-reinforced line is not
authorized and could be extremely dangerous.
Use only the cutting attachments recommen‐
ded in this manual, in combination with the
recommended deflector.
WARNING
■ A damaged or loose cutting attachment or
mowing head may vibrate, crack, break or
come off the trimmer / brushcutter, which may
result in serious or fatal injury or property dam‐
age. Make sure the mowing head and cutting
attachment are properly and securely tight‐
ened and in good condition before starting
work.
