6 IMPORTANT SAFETY INSTRUCTIONS
dry vegetation and brush, particularly when
weather conditions are hot and dry.
► When there is a risk of fire or wildfire, do
not use metal blades around flammable
materials or around dry vegetation or brush.
► Contact your local fire authorities or the
Canadian Forest Service if you have any
question about whether vegetation and
weather conditions are suitable for the use
of a metal blade.
► STIHL does not recommend the use of
metal blades when cutting in rocky areas or
in areas with debris or other objects that
could create sparks.
■ Some STIHL mowing heads have a metal
core. High-speed contact with rock or other
hard objects may create sparks, which can
ignite flammable materials under certain cir‐
cumstances. Flammable materials include dry
vegetation and brush, particularly when
weather conditions are hot and dry.
► When there is a risk of fire or wildfire, do
not use a mowing head with a metal core
around dry vegetation or brush.
► Contact your local fire authorities or the
Canadian Forest Service if you have any
question about whether vegetation and
weather conditions are suitable for the use
of a mowing head with a metal core.
► STIHL does not recommend using a mow‐
ing head with a metal core when cutting in
rocky areas or in areas with debris or other
objects that could create sparks.
■ Use of this trimmer / brushcutter can generate
dust and other substances containing chemi‐
cals known to cause respiratory problems,
cancer, birth defects and other reproductive
harm.
► Consult governmental agencies such as
ECCC, CCOHS and PHAC and other
authoritative sources on hazardous materi‐
als if you are unfamiliar with the risks asso‐
ciated with the particular substances you
are cutting or with which you are working.
■ Inhalation of certain dusts, especially organic
dusts such as mold or pollen, can cause sus‐
ceptible persons to have an allergic or asth‐
matic reaction. Substantial or repeated inhala‐
tion of dust or other airborne contaminants,
especially those with a smaller particle size,
may cause respiratory or other illnesses.
► Control dust at the source where possible.
► To the extent possible, operate the trim‐
mer / brushcutter so that the wind or operat‐
ing process directs any dust, mist or other
0458-041-8201-A
particulate matter raised by the trimmer /
brushcutter away from the operator.
► When respirable dust or other particulate
matter cannot be kept at or near back‐
ground levels, always wear a respirator that
is approved by PHAC and rated for work‐
site-specific conditions. Follow the recom‐
mendations of governmental authorities
(e.g., CCOHS/PHAC) and occupational and
trade associations.
■ If the vegetation being cut or the surrounding
ground is coated with a chemical substance,
such as a pesticide or herbicide:
► Read and follow the instructions and warn‐
ings that accompanied the substance coat‐
ing the vegetation or surrounding ground.

Operating Instructions
WARNING
■ In the event of an emergency:
► Switch off the motor immediately and
remove the battery.
■ The cutting attachment continues to rotate for
a short period after the trigger switch is fully
released. This is known as the "flywheel
effect." To reduce the risk of serious personal
injury from contact with the cutting attachment:
► Wait for the cutting attachment to
stop before walking with the unit or
putting it down.
■ The rotating cutting attachment may fling for‐
eign objects directly or by ricochet a great dis‐
tance. Thrown objects, including broken cut‐
ting attachments, may cause serious or fatal
injury to the operator or bystanders. To reduce
the risk of severe personal injury:
► Inspect the work area. Remove
stones, glass, rocks, pieces of metal
or other objects that could be thrown
by the cutting attachment, damage
the cutting attachment or cause per‐
sonal injury or damage to property
(e.g., parked vehicles, windows).
► STIHL does not recommend the use
of rigid blades when cutting in rocky
areas or in areas where there is deb‐
ris or other objects that could be
thrown by the cutting attachment.
► Always wear proper eye pro‐
15m (50ft)
English
tection and keep bystanders
at least 50 ft. (15 m) away
from the work area. Any per‐
sons who must enter the
restricted area must also
wear proper eye protection.
