The trimmer / brushcutter is designed for two-
handed operation.
► When working with a mowing head, swing the
unit back and forth carefully in a controlled
manner parallel to the ground, as depicted in
Illustration A, above.
► When working with a grass cutting blade or
brush knife, sweep the unit in a controlled pat‐
tern parallel to the ground as depicted in Illus‐
tration B, above.
► Move forward slowly, keeping two hands on
the unit at all times.
For optimum performance, observe the recom‐
mended ambient temperature ranges,
Observe all applicable laws, regulations, stand‐
ards and ordinances.
19.3 Adjusting the Nylon Line
WARNING
■ To reduce the risk of personal injury from unin‐
tended activation, always switch off the motor
and remove the battery from the trimmer
before manually adding or adjusting the nylon
line.
AutoCut Mowing Heads
► While the cutting attachment is rotating, tap
the rotating mowing head on the ground.
Approximately 1.2 in. (30 mm) of fresh nylon line
will be advanced with each tap. The line limiting
blade in the deflector trims the mowing line to the
proper length.
The bump feed mechanism will not advance
additional line if the mowing line is shorter than
1 in. (25 mm). To feed additional line manually:
► Switch off the power tool and remove the bat‐
tery.
► Depress and hold the button on the mowing
head.

► Pull out the mowing line by hand.
► If the mowing line cannot be pulled out to the
required length, install a new spool of line.
SuperCut Mowing Heads
Fresh nylon line will be advanced automatically
without tapping on ground. The line limiting blade
in the deflector trims the mowing line to the

The automatic feed mechanism will not advance

STIHL recommends keeping nylon line in a water
bath for at least 12 to 24 hours before use to
increase its useful life.

20.1 Preparing for Transportation or
Storage
WARNING
■ To reduce the risk of personal injury from unin‐
tended activation or unauthorized use, switch
off the motor, ensure the cutting attachment
has stopped and remove the battery before
transporting the trimmer / brushcutter or put‐
ting it down.
To prepare the trimmer / brushcutter for transpor‐
tation or storage:
► Switch off the trimmer / brushcutter,
► Remove the battery,
► If the battery or trimmer / brushcutter became
damp or wet during operation, allow them to
dry separately and completely before charging
or storing,
