Controlling the jib and flying jib
-
These two foresails are controlled using the winch 8.3
connected to an endless sheet.
-
Set the Dual Rates for the winch channel 8.3 to maximum
travel at the transmitter. Run the winch to one end-point
using the linear slider (channel 4).
-
Tie one end of the endless sheet 9.24 to the bottom chan-
nel of the winch drum 8.15 - Fig. 119.
-
Place the drum loosely on the winch and operate the winch
from the transmitter. It should rotate forwards, i.e. in the
direction of the arrow. If not, remove the drum and run the
winch to the opposite end-point. Fit the drum on the winch
again and run the sheet through the right-hand sleeve 9.4
towards the stern. Run the winch over its full winding tra-
vel, holding the sheet under gentle tension. If the sheet
should run out of the bottom channel of the drum, the
angle of the guide sleeve is wrong and should be correc-
ted.

Apply several coats of wax to the winch bollards 10.1, san-
ding between coats. Paint the winch components in the
colour scheme of your choice.
-
Fix the brackets 10.2 to both bollards as shown in Fig. 120
using the screws 10.3 and nuts 10.4.
-
Drill the cross-hole for the pawl 10.5 in the left-hand
bollard. Trim the pawl to the shape shown and install it
using a screw 10.3 and two nuts 10.4 (Fig. 123).

hand hook 9.26 onto the sheet, and run the sheet through
the right-hand and left-hand return blocks 9.12.
Thread the left-hand hook 9.26 and the left-hand crimp
sleeve 9.25 onto the sheet, and run it through the left-hand
guide sleeve 9.4.
Tie the sheet to the top channel of the winch drum, holding
it under light tension.
Now adjust the Dual Rates setting to reduce the winding
travel of the sheet to the point where a croc-clip fitted on
the sheet touches neither the return block 9.12 at the stern
nor the guide tube 9.4.
Run the winch to its end-point in the direction of the arrow.
Slide the left-hand hook 9.26 along to a point just short of
the return block. Clamp the crimp sleeve on the sheet 10
mm short of the hook.
Run the winch to the opposite end-point and crimp the
right-hand sleeve in the same way.
The jib and flying jib sheets are routed through the guide
rings (split pins 9.11) and attached to the hook as shown in
the sketch, but this is carried out during a later Stage.

Remove any rough edges from the shaft 10.6 and press
the ratchet wheel 10.7 onto it to a distance of 28 mm. Fit
the sleeve 10.8 and the right-hand bollard on the right-
hand side. Press the pinion 10.9 onto the shaft and positi-
on it 2 mm from the bracket.
Press the brake disc 10.11 onto the shaft 10.10, set it cen-
tral and glue it in place. Fit the sleeves 10.12 on both
ends.
