-
Glue the connecting sleeves 12.2 to the base of the masts
5.11 and 5.12, allowing the sleeves to project by 60 mm.
-
Insert the mast sleeves 12.3 and 12.4 in the hull. Fit the
masts into the sleeves and check that the sleeves are
proud of the deck by about 5 mm.

-
Install the bowsprit 11.5 / 11.6 on the model prior to fitting
the bulwark.
-
Cut out the two bulwark shells 13.1 and sand the cut edges
to form an angled channel cross-section - Fig. 145.
-
Lay the template "HS" on the transom, mark the end of the
deck planking and cut off the excess material accurately -
Fig. 146.
[Fig. 146 - Schablone = Template]
-
Trim the bulwark sections to fit on the boat, starting at the
stern. Carefully cut back the excess width at the joint bet-
ween the two shells - see Fig. 147. Tape the shells together
at the butt joint.
-
Drill four 6 mm Ø holes in the bulwark mouldings to accept
the hawses.
-
Drill the 3 mm Ø holes for the scuppers at the marked
points. Machine out the scupper openings using a 3 mm Ø
drill, holding a thin steel rule under the slot to prevent the
drill wandering - Figs. 148 and 149.
-
Continue the bulwark forward along the outer planking
strake 6.4, and cut it to the correct length. Fit short pieces
of scrap spruce strip through the scuppers and clamp them
to the hull to hold the bulwark shell in place - Fig. 150.

The bottom edge of the bulwark must rest on the outer
planks - Figs. 151 and 152. The notch at the top edge must
match the width of the bowsprit. When trimming the bul-
wark ensure that the joint surface of the moulding is pres-
sed down onto the deck and makes contact with it.
Mark the position of the slot for the anchor hawses and file
them out as shown - Fig. 153.
You will find moulded-in points which indicate the position
of the stanchions 13.2 in the top and bottom joint flanges
of the bulwarks. Use a fine felt-tip pen to join these marks
as shown in Fig. 154. Note: the stanchions should be ver-
tical when the boat is floating, i.e. they stand at an angle
relative to the bulwark joint flanges. In the interests of cla-
rity the illustration shows the bulwark fitted to the hull.
There are 40 stanchions positioned along the ship's sides;
trim them individually to fit at the marked positions and
glue them in place.
Trim the corner stanchions 13.3 and the stern stanchions
13.4 to fit neatly and glue them in place - Fig. 155.
Trim the centre stanchion 13.5 to fit as shown in Fig. 156
and trim the front to the shape shown in Fig. 157. Glue the
centre stanchion to one bulwark moulding, leaving half of
its width projecting.
