-
Install the bowsprit 11.6, and glue the support block 11.5 to
the deck permanently.
-
Place the spacer block 14.1 on the bowsprit and mark the
shape as shown in Fig. 162. Cut the block to final size and
sand it smooth.
-
Make up the bow component 14.2 as shown in Fig. 163
and glue it to the block 14.1.
-
Place this assembly on the bowsprit, align the angled
faces of the block and mark its position on the bowsprit.
Remove the bowsprit and glue it to the assembly.
-
Re-install the whole assembly and mark the bevels on the
bulwark components - Fig. 164. Remove the assembly
again.
-
Use SP-T1 to glue the centre handrail 14.3 to the middle
of the bulwark flange on each side starting at the marked
point. Glue the outer and inner rails 14.3 in place in the
same way - Fig. 165.
-
Place the bowsprit on the hull and mark the run of the out-
side edge of the handrails on the oversized part 14.2. Mark
the radius using a small coin and cut part 14.2 to final size
- Fig. 166.
-
Cut the stern fairing piece 14.4 to an angle of 45° at both
ends. Lay part 14.4 on the handrails and check that it is at
right-angles. Adjust the position of the part so that the ang-
led ends cross the outer handrail (on the bulwark) at the
correct point; the distance between the fairing piece and
the centre of the transom should be at least 4 mm. Mark
the angle of the bevels on the handrails and cut them off
neatly - Fig. 167.
-
Mark the rounded outside shape of the transom on the
underside of the fairing piece. Mark another line 4 mm from
the marked outline and cut out the fairing piece along that
line - Fig. 168.
-
Cut the inside shape to a gentle curve, taking care to keep
the edge of the vacuum-moulded bulwark covered.
-
Trim the corner fairing pieces 14.5 to fit - Fig. 169.

the holes.
-
Cut the wire pieces to form the bars 15.2 and bend them
round an 8 mm Ø core - Fig. 178.
-
Twist the bar round a deadeye as shown, holding the wire
in a pair of pliers. One hole should be at the bottom; see
also Fig. 237.
-
Attach the deadeyes and split pins 15.3 to the channels
5.16, shorten the ends and splay them as shown.
-
Install the channels on the hull permanently using the scr-
ews 5.17, as shown also in Figs. 60 and 61. Remember
they are different forward and aft.

General notes on completing the superstructure units,
Stages 16 - 21:
The components are assembled in the order of the part num-
bers as stated in the Parts List.
Cut out the plastic housings along the marked lines.
Remember to sand the joint areas to provide a "key" for the
adhesive.
When sanding the plastic mouldings take great care not to
scratch the clear glazing areas.
The stated lengths in the Parts List are considerably oversize.
You can safely prepare the parts to these dimensions prior to
final trimming.
Use SP-T 2 glue for all joints.
All the superstructure components should be finished with
wood wax - including the glazed surfaces.

The anchor beam 14.6 is laminated from four pieces of
strip wood using the former W 2, adopting the procedure
described for the deck girders - Fig. 170. Taper the ends of
the beam as shown, and drill the holes at the stated posi-
tions. Fit the sleeves 14.7 and rivets 14.8 in the holes. Cut
these parts to length and splay the ends to secure them.
Make up the lugs 14.9 from railing stanchions, drill holes in
the anchor beam using the lugs as a template, and fix the
parts together using the shortened nails 14.10 - Fig. 171.
Apply several coats of wax to the anchor beam.
Place the anchor beam on the boat, set it exactly central
and clamp it to the winch bollards - Fig. 172.
Glue the spacers 14.11 to the handrails, centred on their
width.
Cut the fairing strips 14.12 as shown in Figs. 173 and 174.
Glue the parts together, taking care not to glue them to the
hull (use tape to mask out).
Laminate the two curved end-pieces 14.13 in the usual
way using a 3 mm packing piece, as shown in Fig. 175.
Chamfer and radius the right and left parts 14.13 - Fig.
176. Glue the parts in place.
Sand the whole of the wooden bulwark thoroughly, and
apply several coats of wax. Protect the plastic bulwark with
tape while you are doing this.
Fix the anchor beam to the boat using the sleeves 14.14
and screws 14.15.
Drill 1.5 mm Ø holes to a depth of about 12 mm in the cen-
tre of the middle handrail at the position of the third, fifth,
seventh, eleventh, twelfth and thirteenth bulwark stanchi-
ons (counting from the stern)
Fit the split pins 14.18 and sleeves 14.19 on the handrails
14.16 and 14.17, push the split pins into the holes and
check that they line up correctly. They are glued in place
permanently once the model is otherwise complete - Fig.
177.
