Safety notes regarding the operation of electric-powered model aircraft
27
Please take the trouble to read these notes carefully and thoroughly, together with the building and operating
instructions, before you attempt to fly the model!
Model aircraft are not toys. Building them, and especially operating the completed models, requires specialised knowledge
and considerable skill. Errors and carelessness in assembling and flying these models can result in serious personal injury
and damage to property. Since the manufacturer and supplier have no influence over the way you assemble and operate
your model, all we can do is point out these hazards expressly. We accept no liability for personal injury, damage to
property or any other type of damage.
This model should only be built and operated by adults, or under the personal supervision of adults.
Please follow the assembly and operating instructions as accurately as you can. Modifying the model's construction in any
way, or deviating from the operating instructions, will oblige us to refuse any claim under guarantee.
If you are a beginner to model aircraft, please ask for advice and assistance from an experienced model flyer before you
build and operate this model. The easy way to gain experience is to join your local model flying club or enrol at a flight
training school. We strongly recommend that you take out third party insurance covering the risks of model flying. Your
local club will also have information on this subject.
This model is capable of causing harm and damage even if built strictly according to the instructions. For example, never
touch the spinning rotor blades or any other exposed moving parts, as they are fully capable of causing serious injury.
Passers-by and spectators must be kept well back from the model when you are operating it. Keep a safe distance from
high-tension overhead cables. Never fly the model from public roads, town squares, school playgrounds, public parks,
playing fields etc. Keep the prescribed minimum distance from residential areas.
It is the basic responsibility of all model flyers to behave in such a way that they do not jeopardise public safety and order,
and that their model flying activities do not endanger or interfere with persons or property in any way.
Use only batteries with the recommended capacity and number of cells. If the cell count is too high, you may overload and
burn out the electric motor. It may then start a fire and cause radio interference. The rotor blades and/or retaining screws
may fail, and the broken parts may fly off in all directions at very high speed. If the cell count is too low, it will not be
possible to fly the model to its full capability.
Make sure all your batteries are fully charged before each flight. Land the model in good time, because a flat battery may
cause a malfunction or crash.
Check that your RC system is working correctly in every respect before each flight. For example, the control functions
must work in the correct "sense" (direction). Before you switch your transmitter on, check carefully that "your" channel is
not already in use by another modeller.
Don't fly unless the take-off and landing areas are devoid of obstructions. Watch the model constantly while it is in the air.
Never move the sticks abruptly while you are flying the model.
Do not fly directly towards people or animals, and never fly over them.
Use the recommended polarised connectors exclusively. If a short-circuit occurs accidentally, the batteries may even
explode.
Be sure to suppress the motors exactly as described, using suppressor capacitors and, if required, additional chokes.
The model cannot be built without the use of tools, and all tools are potentially hazardous. Be careful not to hurt yourself
on broken parts or model components with sharp moulded edges.
Adhesives and paints may contain substances such as solvents which can be injurious to health. Read and observe the
manufacturers' instructions, and take protective measures (such as wearing goggles) if advised.
Rubber parts such as rubber bands inevitably deteriorate with age, and become brittle and useless. Check all such items
