The tail rotor
Press the two bearings No. 67566 into the tail rotor housing No. 67362, slide the shaft through and install the tail gear
6
No. 67363 and the tail rotor blades No. 67376 as shown. The rectangular hub area of the tail rotor should fit
exactly between the spigots on the gear; the spigots act
as a driver. Push the pieces of tubing onto both ends of
the shaft to secure the parts.
Caution: the tail rotor blades may have sharp edges
caused by the moulding process.
Carefully sand the edges back slightly.
The tail rotor is now free to rotate. Hold the housing with the tail rotor shaft horizontal, spin the tail rotor and watch whether
one blade of the tail rotor always returns to the bottom. Carefully sand back the inside of this blade until there is no
detectable imbalance in the tail rotor. Vibration in the tail of the helicopter is usually due to imbalance in the tail rotor.
Thread the motor power leads through the tail rotor housing, and fix the
motor to the mounting slots using two M1.6 x 3 mm screws No. 68252 and
the washers No. 67396. Before tightening the screws slip a strip of paper
between the gears and press the motor against the main gear. Carefully
tighten the retaining screws, then wind the strip of paper out. The gearbox should now rotate freely. This adjustment is important
because it affects flight times and longevity generally, and must therefore be carried out accurately. Glue the tailskid No. 67404 in
place using cyano.
