The rotor blades
how the film now encloses the blade completely. You can
increase the adhesive power of the film by heating it gently,
using a film iron at a low setting; you can also remove
minor creases in this way.
Top surface
________________________________
Lay the blade down on your building board as shown, with
the top surface of the airfoil facing up.
Glue the blade root doubler in the hole in the blade root
using cyano.
________________________________
Soon it will be necessary to check blade tracking, and this is
much easier if the blade tips are marked differently. Cut two
strips about 1 cm wide from the white self-adhesive film
supplied. Apply one strip to the extreme tip of one blade.
Apply the other strip to the second blade, but offset inboard
by the width of the film. The next step is to balance the rotor
blades. Hold the blade roots together as shown and fit the
M2 threaded rod through the hubs. Fix the rod in place
using two M2 nuts, with one nut right at the end of the
threaded rod. Tighten the two nuts just to the point where
the blades no longer swing down through their own weight.

2. 2.
1. 1.
Remove the tail rotor from your Piccolo. This is done
by first removing the piece of hose on the rear of the
motor, and then withdrawing the shaft, tail rotor blades
and gear from the bearings on the other side. Leave
the bearings in the tail rotor housing.
Slip the threaded rod (with the main rotor blades attached)
into the tail rotor housing, fitting it through both ballraces.
Ensure that the shaft is supported in both bearings and is
free to rotate.
Now hold the threaded rod level, and allow the blades to
settle. Note which blade hangs down. Repeat this
experiment several times until you are sure which blade
rises and is therefore lighter. Apply a strip of adhesive tape
to the tip of the lighter blade if required. Cut the tape longer
than necessary, and apply it to the tip at the trailing edge,
projecting a little way. Now shorten the strip of tape step by
step until the blades remain at the horizontal position. When
you are sure that balance is correct, wrap the remaining
tape round the end of the blade tip.
Withdraw the threaded rod from the tail rotor housing again,
undo the nuts and remove the threaded rod.
Your tail rotor can now be re-assembled.
