13-1-4. Adjusting the needle and rotary hook timing

Set the feed adjustment dial as indicated below in accordance
with the machine model.
• B891 ... Minimum
• B892 ... Dial setting [6]
Then turn the machine pulley to raise the needle bar from its
lowest position to the point where "G" is visible in the window of
the belt guard q. The rotary hook tip w should be aligned with
the center of the needle at this time.
Furthermore, the clearance between the needle and the rotary
hook tip w should be 0.02 - 0.1 mm when the needle guard e
is not touching the needle.
NOTE:
• Be sure to adjust the clearance between the needle and the
rotary hook tip after adjusting the needle and rotary hook
timing.
• The rotary hook r rotates twice for each single rotation of
the machine pulley. Consequently, the rotary hook r will
rotate twice during a single stroke of the opener t.
Carry out the following adjustments when the opener t is at
its closest position to the rotary hook r.
Needle and rotary hook timing
1. Set the feed adjustment dial as indicated below in accor-
dance with the machine model.
• B891 ... Minimum
• B892 ... Dial setting [6]
2. Remove the needle plate.
3. Tilt back the machine head.
4. Loosen the bolt y.
5. Turn the machine pulley to raise the needle bar from its low
est position to the point where "G" is visible in the window of
the belt guard q.
(The needle will rise 2 mm, and the distance from the needle
hole to the rotary hook tip w will be 1.4 mm.)
6. Turn the rotary hook r to align the rotary hook tip w with
the center of the needle, and then securely tighten the bolt
y.

7. Turn the bolt (right) u clockwise so that the needle guard e
is away from the needle.
8. Loosen the bolts i and o.
9. Turn the horizontal hook base collar !0 clockwise so that
side A of the horizontal hook base ! 1 gently touches the
bed worked surface B. In this condition, move the horizontal
hook base ! 1 to the left or right to adjust so that the clear-
ance between the needle and the rotary hook tip w becomes
0.02 - 0.1 mm.
10. Tighten the bolt o.
11. Tighten the bolt i.
12. Install the needle plate !2 . At this time, insert the stopper !3
of the inner rotary hook into the notch in the needle plate ! 2 .
13. Adjust the position of the needle guard e. (Refer to page
65.)
