MASTER
55. POWER AMP STATUS indicators
These indicators are to inform you about the momentary operational
status of the PowerMate's internal power amplifi er.
The POWER ON indicator is always lit when the PowerMate is in
operational mode. If the LED is not lit after you have turned the po-
wer on, please make sure that the PowerMate's mains cable is cor-
rectly plugged in. If this is the case and the LED is still not lit, please
contact your dealer.
The LIMIT indicator signals that you are operating the PowerMate at
the internal amplifi er's limit. Frequent blinking of the LED is accep-
table, since the amplifi er's incorporated limiter prevents distortion.
Continuous lighting indicates that you have to be aware of a degra-
dation in the outputted sound. In that case, the master level has to
be reduced.
The PROTECT indicator is lit when one of the PowerMate's exten-
sive protection circuits – against thermal overload, HF-induction,
DC at the outputs, and SOAR-protection – is activated. When the
PowerMate is in protect mode, the speaker outputs are muted and
the amplifi er's inputs are short circuited to prevent the amplifi er from
being damaged. In this case you should fi rst check if the ventilation
louvres are blocked. Another cause could be, that you have con-
nected more than three 8ohms speaker systems per power output.
Please also disconnect the SPEAKON connectors and check the
speaker cables for short circuits.
During the power-on operation the PROTECT LED always lights for
about two seconds, signalizing that the PowerMate's protection cir-
cuitry is operational.
56. PHANTOM POWER
When this switch is pressed, all MIC inputs are supplied with
+24V phantom power. Please make sure to engage the phantom
power only when the PowerMate is switched off or in stand-by
mode. With active phantom power the connection of unbalan-
ced signal sources (keyboards, mixer, etc.) is not admissible,
because this could lead to severe damaging of your equipment.
ATTENTION! IMPORTANT NOTICE!
In general, the operation of phantom powered condenser mic-
rophones and balanced dynamic microphones at the same time
does not lead to any problems.
Nevertheless, some balanced dynamic microphones are extre-
mely sensitive. These models could get damaged when used
on mixers with active phantom power. Please refer to the mic-
rophones' owner's manuals to make sure that this operation is
permissible.
To be on the safe side, you should switch the PHANTOM PO-
WER off, when using balanced dynamic microphones. This
ensures that your sensitive microphones do not suffer from any
damage.
