15. FOLLOW THESE STEPS WHEN BATTERY IS OUTSIDE
VEHICLE. A SPARK NEAR THE BATTERY MAY CAUSE
BATTERY EXPLOSION. TO REDUCE RISK OF A SPARK
NEAR BATTERY:
a. Check polarity of battery posts. POSITIVE (POS, P, +)
battery post usually has a larger diameter than
NEGATIVE (NEG, N, –) post.
b. Attach at least a 24-inch-long (60 cm) 6-gauge (AWG)
insulated battery cable to NEGATIVE (NEG, N, -) battery
post.
c. Connect POSITIVE (RED) charger connection to
POSITIVE (POS, P, +) post of battery.
d. Position yourself and free end of cable as far away from
battery as possible – then connect NEGATIVE (BLACK)
charger clip to free end of cable.
e. Do not face battery when making final connection.
f. When disconnecting charger, always do so in reverse
sequence of connecting procedure and break first
connection while as far away from battery as practical.
g. A marine (boat) battery must be removed and charged
on shore for normal chargers. To charge it on board
requires equipment specially designed for marine use.
This charger is not designed for marine use.
h. GROUNDING INSTRUCTIONS—This battery charger
should be connected to a grounded, metal, permanent
wiring system; or an equipment-grounding conductor
should be run with circuit conductors and connected to
equipment-grounding terminal or lead on battery

charger. Connections to battery charger should comply
with all local codes and ordinances.
i. This commercial/industrial battery charger should be
installed so that it is not likely to be contacted by people.
Read these instructions carefully and look at the equipment to
become familiar with the device before installing, operating,
configuring, maintaining, and troubleshooting it. The following
special messages may appear throughout this documentation or
on the equipment to warn of potential hazards or to call attention to
information that clarifies or simplifies a procedure.
The addition of either symbol to a "Danger" or "Warning" safety
label indicates that an electrical hazard exists which will result in
personal injury if the instructions are not followed.

personal injury hazards. Obey all safety messages that follow this
symbol to avoid possible injury or death.
DANGER
DANGER indicates a hazardous situation which, if not avoided, will result in
death or serious injury.
WARNING
WARNING indicates a hazardous situation which, if not avoided, could result
in death or serious injury.
