Recommendation for pre-heating
outside air
Use a brine earth heat exchanger, e.g. Maico
brine earth heat exchanger EW in the outside
air inlet.
In passive-energy houses, suitable
outside air pre-heating is vitally
important, in order to ensure
continuous operation.
WS 170 comfort and bypass units
are fitted with an electrical outside air
pre-heater.
An electric heating register is
installed inside WS 170 comfort and
bypass units to ensure continuous
unit operation.
Recommendation for hydraulic re-heating
register
Use an NTC temperature sensor in the sup-
ply air duct. This serves as safety device for
the water-carrying WRH re-heating register. It
switches the ventilation unit off if the supply
air temperatures are too low (5 °C).
If the ventilation system is installed
with a hydraulic re-heating register
(e.g. in a passive-energy house), an
NTC temperature sensor should be
installed to protect against icing over.
Connection to KNX/IEB Bus
The ventilation unit can also be operated
together with KNX/EIB bus components, e.g.
with fan coil actuators or operating panels
from the corresponding KNX supplier.
Further KNX/EIB modules can be integrated
in the system bus without problem, e.g. CO
sensors, timers and motion detectors.

9. Faults, messages

For information about the fault and filter
replacement displays  Chapter 7 of
Operating and maintenance instructions.
Details of fault rectification are also provided
here for the user.
The following information is intended for
specialist installers and electricians.

9.1 RLS 1 WR room air control

The RLS1 WR room air control indicates a
fault when all three LEDs are flashing. The
cause is either a "fan failure", a "temperature
sensor fault" or a defective frost protection re-
heating register.
To delete the fault message, press the
▲ button for around 5 seconds. If the fault is
not rectified, the fault message appears again
after about 1 minute.
This can be deleted a maximum of 3 times.
Disconnect the ventilation unit from the power
supply briefly for further deletion cycles.
9.2 Digital RLS D1 WR
room air control
Error messages are shown in the room air
control display.
For more detailed explanations of error
messages F1 to F7  Assembly and
operating instructions for room air control.
9.3 Fan failure with connected
RLS 1 WR
In the case of fan failure (no speed), a fault
message (all 3 LEDs flashing) appears on the
RLS 1 WR after about a minute.
At the same time as the fault message is
displayed:
● In the case of a supply air fan failure, the
defined voltage for the supply air and
exhaust fan switches off. Both fans remain
stationary. However the mains voltage of
2
230 V continues to be supplied to both
fans. Any connected external operating
display switches off.
● In the case of an exhaust fan failure, the
defined voltage for the exhaust fan
switches off. The exhaust fan remains
stationary but the supply air fan continues
to run. The 230 V supply voltage continues
to be supplied to both fans. Any connected
external operating display switches off.
