Installation on BPW chassis

4. Installation on BPW chassis
Chassis with iMC preparation can be identified by the drilling patterns in front of or behind the axle. Please refer to
the three pictures below to check which chassis your caravan has. There are differences in the attachment set,
because different sets have different hole positions.

First, bolt on the two cantilevers [06] and the two drive units
[01] and [02] using the safety bolts M 10x14 [16] fitted with
one washer M 10 [24] each; tightening torque 60 Nm. The
iMC sticker should point outwards on the left and the right
unit. Seal the ends of the cantilever [06] with the caps for
the cantilever [07].
Usually, the cantilever [06] is mounted from above on the
two drive units [01] and [02]. In such cases, the seal [09]
must be inserted before bolting. (Fig. 4.a)
As the next step, preassemble the chassis adapter [08]. To
do this, screw the threaded pins M 8x20 [18] with the
locknut M 8 [20] a few millimetres into the adapter. Later,
the bolt functions as a clamping bolt and should not project
into the tube after preliminary assembly. (Fig. 4.b)
Also, preassemble the middle crossmember [10] with the
threaded pins M 8x20 [18] and the locknut M 8 [20] as
described above. (Fig. 4.c)
The two prepared chassis adapters [08] are pushed onto the
two cantilevers [06]. This completes preliminary assembly of
the module. (Fig. 4.1.d)

Following this, the lateral cantilevers [06] are guided through
the middle crossmember [10]. (Figs. 4.1.e and 4.1.f)
It is important for a gap of about 20 mm to remain between
the tyre and the iMC when the caravan or trailer is loaded.
Use the wooden blocks [15] for checking. (Fig. 4.1.g)
} Caution:
The wheel must be fully loaded in order for
the distance to be set, i.e. the caravan must
be completely standing on level ground.
Tighten the four bolts M 12x35 [19] between the chassis
adapter and frame to 92 Nm, then align the middle
crossmember [10] centrally with the frame. Tighten the four
threaded pins M 8x20 [18] to 15 Nm against the cantilever
tube [06] and lock it with the locknut M 8 [20]. (Fig. 4.1.f)
Following this, check the iMC attachment is seated correctly,
in correct condition and is complete. (Figs. 4.1.h and 4.1.i)

The work steps must be performed
twice for the Tandem T4.
