Section 4A:
EW Code PETROL ENGINES – Update Tools
EW 10 & EW12 Twin Camshaft Petrol Engines
– New engine variants – New tools required
- Refer to Application Chart for model usage / engine codes
PSA changed the method of 'locking' the fl ywheel/crankshaft and fi tted a different belt tensioner to some of the "EW Code" petrol engines from around 2002.
These engines tend to have only one bolt for the crankshaft pulley in place of the 4 x pulley bolts on previous engines. Locking the fl ywheel requires NEW Pin
DT.4825P19 and the belt tensioner procedure demands New Tools DT4826-1 and DT.4826-2.
23
DT.4825P19 Flywheel Locking Pin
Turn the crankshaft to 'timed' position and insert New DT.4825P19 Locking Pin through the 'datum hole' in bell housing and in to the fl ywheel.
NOTE: Previously, EW engines used DT.4575P11 Crankshaft Locking Pin from DT.PSA Kit, through the crankshaft pulley fl ange to 'lock' the crankshaft.
IMPORTANT: DT4825P19 Locking Pin will not enter as deep in to the hole on Automatic Transmissions as it does on Manual Transmissions.–see diagram 22
– "A" = Manual Transmission / "B" = Automatic Transmission
Use existing Camshaft Locking Pins from DT.PSA Kit - DT.4575P10 (pair), (or 1 x DT.4575P10 and DT.4575P14 for HPi), to 'lock camshafts and slacken
tensioner bolt to remove belt.
24
DT.4826-1 Belt Tensioner Turning Tool & DT.4826-2 Belt Tensioner Locking Tool
Place DT.4826-1 Turning Tool over the tensioner roller and locate on to the pointer. Turn DT.4826-1 clockwise until the 'pointer passes both the 'notch' and the
'slot' on the tensioner back plate.
Fit DT.4826-2 Locking Tool in to the 'slot' in the back plate to 'lock' the pointer in place,
and remove DT.4826-1 Tool.
Whilst retaining a new belt on to crankshaft gear using DT.4569 Belt Clip (from DT.PSA Kit), continue to fi t the belt in anti-clockwise direction.
Fit crankshaft pulley and remove Locking Pin from Exhaust sprocket, DT.4569 Clip and DT.4826-2 Tensioner Tool.
25
Tensioner position
Using an Allen Key turn tensioner anti-clockwise at Hex. "A" until pointer achieves position "B" - POINTER MUST PASS 'NOTCH' BY T LEAST 10° – or replace
tensioner.
Turn tensioner clockwise to align the pointer with the 'notch' "C" – DO NOT TO PASS 'NOTCH' "C"
Tighten tensioner bolt – DO NOT allow tensioner to turn whilst tightening the bolt.
The Allen Key Hex "A" position – MUST BE 15° BELOW CYLINDER HEAD GASKET LINE – or replace tensioner.
Remove remaining Timing tools and turn crankshaft 10 turns, by hand, clockwise, returning to 'timing' position.
Check Tensioner Position
Insert Locking Pin into Inlet Camshaft sprocket – check that the tensioner pointer is aligned with the 'notch' – If pointer passes 'notch' "C" – repeat the
tensioning procedure.
