Fastening the magnetic tape

NOTICE
Improper installation
Improper installation can compromise the function of the
magnetic ring and result in damage.
► Keep magnetized parts away from the tape to rule
out the formation of defective areas that could result
in non-linearity or malfunction.
► Attach the tape to the mounting surface parallel to
the direction of travel and completely level. Wavy or
skewed tapes will affect the measuring accuracy.
► To prevent undefined non-linearity, never stretch or
compress the tape.
► Once glued in place, a tape should not be removed
(even partially). Strong non-linearity can be expected
from any point which has been lifted.
Note the following when fastening the tape:

Ambient conditions

For optimum bonding conditions, we recommend an
ambient temperature of 0 to 40°C.
Thoroughly remove any oil, grease, dust, etc. (use
acetone or similar) from the mounting surface of the
tape and allow to dry completely.
Tape alignment
The arrow printed on the tape must point in the same
direction as the arrow on the part label of the sensor
head (see Fig. 4-1 and Fig. 4-2 on page 10).
Tapes with a reference track have the first reference
point visually marked.
The coding of the tape must match the coding of the
sensor head.

Installation options

Non-flush installation
For normal ambient conditions glue the tape down to a
level surface. Optionally the cover strip can be glued on for
protection (see Fig. 4-3, Pos. 1).
Flush installation
For harsh ambient conditions embed the tape fully in a
somewhat deeper channel so that it does not extend over
the surface. Optionally the cover strip can be glued on (see
Fig. 4-3, Pos. 2).
Flush installation with potting
Under extreme ambient conditions embed the tape
fully in a somewhat deeper channel and fill it with
non-magnetic material. The potting material can be
leveled by lightly sanding (see Fig. 4-3, Pos. 3).

Tape installation options
When installing in a channel:
Provide a channel which is wider than the
tape.
The tape is attached on one side.
