Selecting the tape

When selecting the magnetic tape, make sure that the
magnetic tape and sensor head are compatible. This
particularly applies to the following:
– Pole width and coding
– Reference points (optional, depends on system)
The usable measuring length of the tape is
described in section 7 (see tables on
page 19 and 21) and in the corresponding
sensor head manual.

Incremental tapes

The incremental tapes have alternating magnetic north and
south poles with a particular pole width (incremental track).
Incremental tapes without reference points are magnetized
with an incremental track over the entire tape width.
Incremental tapes with reference points consist of an
incremental track which is magnetized over approximately
50% of the tape width. The second track consists of single
or multiple magnetic poles, the reference points.

with various pole widths, see Tab. 3-1.
