7. To "unlock" the dilator from the TBV and sheath, remove the clip
and loosen the TBV by turning the cap counter clockwise.
Fig. 3
CAUTION
• The Tuohy-Borst Valve (TBV) must be tightly closed to minimize
the risk of hemorrhage or air embolism.
II. Using the Cross Cut Valve (CCV)
1. Ensure that the valve and the sheath are tightly connected.
2. Connect a flushing line to the 3-way stopcock of the guiding
sheath. Fill the sheath assembly completely with heparinized
saline, removing all air.
3. Wet the distal 15 cm (150 mm) of the sheath with heparinized
saline. To maintain lubricity, this surface must be kept completely
wet.
4. Prime the dilator using a syringe with heparinized saline.
5. Insert the dilator completely into the sheath.
CAUTION
• Insert the dilator into the center of the sheath valve. Forced
insertion of the dilator which misses the center of the sheath
valve may cause damage and result in blood leakage.
6. The CCV connects with the male hub of the dilator, and locks in
place by means of grip. Snap the dilator hub into the top of the
CCV hub to lock them together (Fig. 4).
7. To "unlock" the dilator from the CCV and sheath, bend the dilator
hub downward (Fig. 5).
CAUTION
• Be sure that the dilator is held firmly in place in the sheath and
CCV. If the dilator is not secure, only the sheath will advance
into the vessel and the tip of the sheath may damage the vessel.
Advancing the sheath alone may damage the vessel.
