8.3 Feed and holding unit assembly

Workpieces are fed to the feed and holding unit either manually or from an upstream station.
An opto-electrical sensor monitors the end position of the workpieces in the holder. From this position, the
workpiece can be picked by the planar surface gantry with pneumatic gripper.
The color of the workpieces is detected during the feed process by combining three sensor signals.
A black workpiece is detected when:

The through-beam sensor indicates a rising edge and
•
The diffuse sensor does not respond
A red workpiece is detected when:
•
The through-beam sensor indicates a rising edge and
• The diffuse sensor indicates a rising edge
A silver workpiece is detected when:
•
The inductive proximity sensor indicates a rising edge
A transparent workpiece is detected when:
•
The through-beam sensor indicates two rising edges
If the workpieces are to be evaluated in the connected open-loop control, the sensors (except the light
barrier) are forwarded to the connected controller. This makes it possible to detect red, black, and silver
workpieces.
