Function Description

Cooling tower salt bleeding

The continuing water evaporation in a cooling tower (decrease of the water volume) causes
the continued increase of solidified minerals (salts) in the water. This process is called
densification or salt increase.
A measure for the salt densification is the conductivity of the liquid. Generally it can be said
that: „low" conductivity = poor densification and „high" conductivity = high densification.
The conductivity of the cooling tower water is measured continually by the conductivity
measuring cell connected to the CoolPROTECT and is processed by the unit's built-in
measuring amplifier.
If the measuring value exceeds the set top value limit for a long period (approx. 30 sec)
(max. densification), the blow out process of the water from the cooling circulation into the
canalization is induced.
The then falling level of the cooling water means fresh water is added, controlled by a level
controller.
This supply means the densification decreases and the conductivity falls.
If the conductivity is now continually (approx. 30 sec.) below the prior set low limit, the blow
out process is ended and the fresh water supply stopped.
The water in the cooling circulation is now again subject to densification through
evaporation in the cooling tower until the top value limit is reached and the blow out
process starts again.

Biocide metering(only in Art. No. 255155, and/or 255166)

High temperatures and high mineral concentration promote the growth of microbiological
cultures in the cooling water. For the protection of the equipment and to prevent health
hazards to humans, it is necessary to add a dose of a germicide product (biocide) into the
cooling water circulation at regular intervals.
With the CoolPROTECT it is possible to execute such a timer controlled biocide dosing.
The timing of the metering and product tracking time is selectable.
During the metering and tracking time the bleeding process is always blocked. The current
operation process is shown in the display.
5.3

Pre-bleeding

Pre-bleeding should prevent a bleeding process from starting immediately after a biocide
metering and therefore the biocide chemical is blown off without effect into the drain.
If the conductivity value at the planned start of a biocide metering process is higher than
the bleeding threshold W- (see chapter
Treshold W-"), the bleeding will preferred. The biocide metering is only started after the
bleeding process has ended and the bleeding valve has closed.
