6 Propeller and propeller aperture
VD00178
The space between the tips of the propeller blades and the bot-
tom of the boat should be at least 15% of the propeller diame-
ter. The distance from propeller hub to outer bearing must be at
least 20 mm (

"), but not more than 60 mm (2

It is useful when working on the motor if the shaft can be
pushed about 10 cm (4") backwards.
The water must be able to flow freely over a distance of at least
10 cm (4") forward and aft of the propeller.

7 Propeller

Design of the propeller and propeller aperture are very impor-
tant for the cruising characteristics of the vessel. It is especially
important for a vessel with electrical propulsion that the pro-
peller size is selected correctly.
Consult table 1 at page 60 for selecting the correct propeller.
When running forward, the electric motor shaft must turn to the
right, when viewed from the back.,
Fit only a 'R
H
' propeller!

8 Cooling

In order to achieve the highest possible efficiency both the elec-
tric motor and the speed regulator are water cooled. The effi-
ciency of electrically driven motors and speed regulators is to a
large extent influenced by the temperature and increases at a
lower temperature.

The cooling system is a so-called 'keel cooling system'; a cool-
ing liquid circulates around the motor and along the speed reg-
ulator.
N.B.: If a hybrid installation is being used the diesel engine must
have its own cooling water supply.
The keel cooler must be positioned on the outside near the bot-
tom of the hull.
When selecting a position for the keel cooler the following point
must be taken into account.

The keel cooler must be placed in such a position that a con-
tinuous flow of water is guaranteed under all circumstances.
This means that placing it near to the bows where turbulence
can occur at higher speeds is not advisable. The keel cooler
must also remain under water when the ship rolls.
