Starting and Stopping the Engine

Starting the Engine

1. Move the fuel valve to the OPEN position, all the
way to the right.
2. Move the choke lever left to the ON position if you
are starting a cold engine.
Note: A warm or hot engine may not require choke.
3. Move the throttle to the DISENGAGE position.
4. Hold the safety bail against the handle and push the
handle down enough to raise the cutting wheel off
the ground.
5. Pull the starter handle lightly until you feel resistance, then pull briskly in the direction the
arrow show. Return the starter grip gently.
6. After the engine starts, gradually move the choke
lever back to the OFF position. If the engine stalls
or hesitates, move the choke back to the ON again
until the engine warms up. Then move to the full
OFF position.
