However, the following general guidelines are always applicable:
•
The maximum allowable length (resistance length) is 12 metres. In figuring this,
count every 90° elbow as 1 metre resistance length and every 45° elbow as ½
metre resistance length.
•
In order to maintain the natural draught, it is necessary to install at least one
metre of concentric pipe, vertically, before connecting the horizontal terminal or
vertical terminal.
•
The horizontal section must never be longer than the vertical.
A full set of Metaloterm US tubes is always preferable. In case the residence has a
chimney already, it may be convenient to lead the Metaloterm US tube system
through the chimney or to convert the existing channel into a concentric one by
means of a flexible hose and of suitable connections.
In this latter case, the following prerogatives prevail.
•
The existing channel must be leak proof and well cleaned.
•
It must be able to resist temperatures of up to 600°C over its whole length.
•
It may have maximum once a slant angle of maximum 45° and at maximum 25%
of the total height.
•
The round or square section of the channel must be minimum 150 mm and
maximum 250 mm over the whole length. Nowhere the section may be inferior
to or exceed the indicated limits. The section may vary over the whole length of
the smoke channel, providing that these variations are gradual and not abrupt.
•
In case that last condition cannot be fulfilled, a stainless steel flexible duct with
a section of 150 to 250 mm and resisting 600°C can be installed into the original
smoke channel before converting it into an air supply channel.
•
The bottom and top of the smoke channel must be closed by means of the re-
quired flanges. At the bottom, the "smoke channel" section must always be con-
nected with the appliance by means of a Metaloterm US concentric pipe. At the
top, mounting of the appropriate Metaloterm US roof terminal is mandatory.
•
The maximum allowable length (resistance length) including the Metaloterm US
concentric pipe sections is 12 metres. In figuring this, count every 90° elbow as
1 metre resistance length and every 45° elbow as ½ metre resistance length.
Depending on the chosen path and the ratio of vertical to horizontal length, a re-
stric tor plate needs to be properly positioned on the flue gas exhaust opening inside
the unit at the top.
The enclosed calculation sheet allows you to figure out if the path you have chosen
falls within the limits, and to determine how the restrictor plate needs to be posi-
tioned.
