Translation of the Original Instruction Manual
General Power Tool Safety Warnings
WARNING
Read before use!
To reduce the risk of injury, the user must read and understand the instruction
manual.
The device has been built and operates safely in accordance with the state of the
art and the recognised rules of safety. Nevertheless dangers for the user or third
parties or material damage may arise from improper use or use not for the intended
purpose. Therefore read and follow the safety instructions!
Keep all safety rules and instructions for the future.
Only use the device for the intended purpose and under observance of the general
safety and accident prevention regulations.
A) Work place
● Keep the work place tidy. Untidiness can cause accidents.
● Avoid dangerous ambient influences (e.g. inflammable liquids or gases).
● Keep children and other persons away when using the device. Distractions can
lead to you losing control of the tool.
● Make sure that the work place is well lit.
● Make sure you are standing safely during work.
● All unauthorised modifications to the device are prohibited for safety reasons.
● Change worn parts immediately.
B) Safety of persons
● Only employ trained personnel. Youths may only operate the device if they are
over 16 years of age, it is essential to achieve their training goal and they are
supervised by a specialist.
● Wear tightly fitting clothing, tie loosely hanging hair, take off jewellery and similar.
● Use personal safety equipment (protective glasses, gloves).
● Only use genuine accessories and spare parts for your own safety, to assure
proper functioning of the device and to uphold your warranty rights.
Special safety instructions for handling carbon
dioxide CO
2
DANGER
● Inhalation of CO
in concentrated form is dangerous to the health. Therefore the
2
breathing air may not contain greater concentrations of CO
of suffocation!!!
● If a CO
system or a defective safety valve leaks CO
2
escape into the outside air immediately. Submerged rooms (pits, shafts, base-
ments) must be evacuated immediately.
● Only work in a well aired environment. CO
heavier than air. It therefore gathers near the floor and displaces the air if there
is no adequate ventilation. Danger of suffocation!
WARNING
● Work with naked flames may not be carried out closer than 60 cm from the
freezing point.
● Do not hit freezed collars with tools (danger of breakage).
● Keep other persons and especially children, also animals away. Dry ice causes
burns in contact with the skin. Do not dispose of residue ice from collars care-
lessly at the end of work but throw it in the waste bin.
WARNING
Handling CO
cylinders
2
● Unauthorised refilling of CO
from one gas cylinder into another is a high safety
2
risk and must be performed by appropriately trained staff of an authorised filling
company.
● CO
cylinder valves frequently have overpressure protection in the form of a
2
rupture disc which is fixed to the valve by a union nut. This device may never be
manipulated in any way to avoid unwanted and dangerous escaping of CO
● CO
ice can be dangerous in many ways. There is a danger of cold burns if the
2
emerging jet comes into contact with the human skin.
● CO
cylinders with dip tubes are clearly labelled as such by the filling company
2
and have a red valve hand wheel.
Drawing from CO
cylinders with dip tubes
2
● CO
must be drawn from the CO
2
CO
ice (dry ice). Therefore only use CO
2
a pressure regulator to the cylinder. Keep the cylinder in a secure, upright posi-
tion.
● Due to technical reasons the CO
manipulate nozzles, collars or valves including cylinder valves.
DANGER
● The drawing device must therefore be pressure-proof and suitable for liquid CO
For example, it could be fatal to connect a CO
without pressure regulator to a beer barrel. The beer barrel might not be able to
withstand the evaporating CO
liquid and would burst.
2
● A frozen cylinder valve could prevent it from being closed. For safety reasons,
. There is danger

2
you must wait until the valve has thawed. A cylinder cap may not be screwed on
because this could build up pressure due to the dry ice and cause a high injury
risk during handling.
WARNING
Transport of CO
gas cylinders
2
● Pressurised gas cylinders should only be transported with cylinder trolleys or in
case of small cylinders in suitable cariers or in the cylinder pallet. Do not hang
pressurised gas cylinders to a crane by the valve protection (e.g. protective cap
or cage) for transport. The valve protection devices are designed exclusively for
protection of the valve and may not be used for lifting with a crane or lifting devices
(e.g. chains).
Storage of CO
gas cylinders
2
● A risk assessment must be made before emptying pressurised gas cylinders.
● Pressurised gas cylinders connected for emptying must always be secured against
falling over.
● Before emptying pressurised gas cylinders, it must be ensured that the gas cannot
flow back into the pressurised gas cylinders from the pipe system.
● Follow the safety instructions of the CO

1. Technical Data

Use for the intended purpose
WARNING
Use the REMS Eskimo only for the intended purpose of freezing unemptied pipes
with carbon dioxide (CO
) refrigerant.
2
All other uses are not for the intended purpose and are prohibited.

1.1. Working range

Liquids of all types such as water, milk, beer etc. in pipes made from steel,
copper, cast iron, lead, aluminium, plastic etc. Pipe sizes ⅛ – 2" respec t ively
10 – 60 mm.
The ice pack which forms in the pipe is capable of withstanding a pressure of
approx. 500 bar.
1.2. Refrigerant
Carbon dioxide (CO
), commercially available in cylinders of different sizes. It
2
is best to purchase large cylinder sizes.
1.3. Noise data
Emission at workplace 75 dB (A).

2. Preparations for Use

Remove the seal from the CO
cylinder valve (right-hand thread). Screw high-pressure hoses to the T-distrib-
utor. Screw on the handle piece with injector nozzle to the high-pressure hoses
(Fig. 1). Choose freeze collars which correspond to the size of the pipe to be
frozen. Place the freeze collars on the pipe and secure by tightening the screws
evenly to give a firm but not overtight hold (Fig. 2). Turn and, at the same time,
push each handle piece with injector nozzle into the bore of the freeze collar
until it is completely inserted and resting against the stop (Fig. 3).
If one only operates with one collar, the free side of the T-distributor has to be
c losed by the closing nut. If a 3. or further freezing points are required, additional
T-distributors (accessory) can be connected to the T-distributor.
3. Operation
DANGER
CO
displaces air! Do not use REMS Eskimo in submerged rooms (pits, shafts,
2
basements). Danger of suffocation!
The water (or other liquid) in the pipe can only be frozen when it is no longer
flowing. All pumps must therefore be stopped and no liquid removed or allowed
to escape from the pipe. Before freezing, let the water cool down to room
temperature.
.
Fully open the cylinder valve. The amount of CO

temperature of –79°C and freezes the water within the pipe. After a brief period,
frost will form on the pipe in the vicinity of the freeze collars. If frost does not
form in accordance with time given in the table, then this indicates that the
liquid within the pipe is still flowing (check that all pumps have been switched
off and prevent any removal or outflow of water) or the water is too warm. While
work is in progress, the flow of CO
CO
must flow out constantly between pipe and collar (pressure c ompensation).
2
Always ensure a sufficient supply of refrigerant by providing a stand-by cylinder.
The only way to determine the amount of remaining CO
If it is necessary to change the cylinder during work, it is essential that this proce-
dure should be complete within 7 minutes to prevent the ice pack from melting.
.
Once work is complete, close the cylinder valve and wait until the pressure in

the high-pressure hoses has returned to normal. Remove the high-pressure
hoses. Once the ice pack has completely melted, carefully unscrew and
remove the handle pieces with injector from the freeze collar and remove the
