Safety Instructions

4. Safety Instructions
1. Application of the iDC increases the driving
safety; the admissible maximum speed of the
trailer is not
changed. Furthermore, the
physical limits can not be overridden by the
iDC. The system does not replace farsighted
driving. Observe the STVZO (motor vehicle
regulations).
2. Use of the iDC is only allowed with BPW
components.
3. The braking effect of the iDC is reduced in
case of a worn or maladjusted brake system.
4. The continuous positive electricity at the 13-
pole socket (or at the 2x7-pole socket (GB
execution)) of the pulling vehicle must be fused
with 14 to 15 A, otherwise there is a risk of
fire.
5. You should not be tempted to run a safety
risk due to the high safety being offered by the
iDC.
6. The driving speed is always to be adapted to
the weather, road and the traffic. Particularly in
case of wet and slippery roads! Observe the
STVZO (motor vehicle regulations).
7. Tyres in poor condition might affect the
iDC's efficiency.
8. The electric connection between the vehicle
and the caravan or the trailer must be
absolutely correct and should be checked prior
to driving.
9. Improper working or modifications at the
brake system might affect the functions of the
iDC. Installation of the system, work and
modifications at the brake system as well as
at the electric system is recommended to
be executed by a garage/dealer.
10. Always effect a visual inspection prior to
driving. Particularly check the cabling, fixings
and the status LED.
The cable to the brake linkage must be tensed
slightly when the hand brake of the overrun
device is not actuated, and the overrun
device should not be in reverse gear
position.
11. When connecting with the continuous
positive electricity of the battery, the iDC
effects a self-test. During the performance
test, the brake linkage of the trailer will be
actuated, which will result in enormous forces
at the moving parts. Observe that neither
objects nor parts of the body are within the
working area during this process.
Caution: Risk of Squeezing!
12. After the self-test the status LED must
illuminate green. If this is not the case, see
chapter "A-2 LED Flashing Code".
13. Perfect operation of the iDC requires a
cable cross section of the supply lines of min.
2.5 mm.
14. The connectors must be permanently
inserted into the central unit to ensure
tightness.
15. Cleaning of the central unit is only allowed
with a damp cloth and never with a high
pressure cleaner.
16. In case of temperatures below –30 °C and
above +55°C proper operation of the iDC
might be affected.
17. Modifications or changes at the iDC are
not admissible.
18. The mode "brakes too hot" (green flashing
code, flashing slowly) effects a disconnection
of the IDC functions for max. 100 sec. to
protect the service brake. This is to be
considered by the driver.
Attention: We do not accept any liability for
damages due to non-observation of this
manual. Subject to modifications and errors.
