Absolute magnetic encoder system

5.1

Starting up the system

DANGER
Uncontrolled system movement
When starting up, if the magnetic encoder system is part
of a closed loop system whose parameters have not yet
been set, the system may perform uncontrolled
movements. This could result in personal injury and
equipment damage.
► Persons must keep away from the system's
hazardous zones.
► Startup must be performed only by trained technical
personnel.
► Observe the safety instructions of the equipment or
system manufacturer.
1. Check connections for tightness and correct polarity.
Replace damaged connections or devices.
2. Turn on the system.
3. Check function.
5.2

Preset

The magnetic tape has an absolute coding over a length of
48 meters. For shorter travel distances the position of the
sensor head at each desired position (Preset) can be
permanently set to a start value of 10 mm (recommended).
For a preset a voltage between 10 V DC and 30 V DC for
≥ 500 ms is applied to the corresponding pin. The current
position is then 10±1 mm. If the sensor head is moved
back from there more than 10 mm, the position value
drops to 0 and then goes negative (two's complement).
If these values are not meaningful to the controller, the
Preset function must be used at the start of the movement
range. The transmitted position can never be negative
then.
If the magnetic tape is replaced, the Preset function must
be set again at the start position.

Status indication/error monitoring

During the measurement signal strength and plausibility of
the absolute position are continuously monitored.
The sensor status is indicated either by the interface (see
Section 6) or by the Status LED, which in conformance
with DRIVE-CLiQ is labeled RDY.
At bootup the RDY LED indicates the following sequence:
OFF
RED
No

Plausibility check: There is an error in the plausibility
check for the absolute position.
External temperature processing error: externally
connected temperature sensor is defective, the cable
are defective (cable break) or the temperature sensor is
not connected.
System error: The sensor head is defective.
