Selection the playback area

There are two types of Super Audio CDs, regular ones that
contain 2-channel stereo and multi-channel stereo and hybrid
discs (two-layer discs) that contain Super Audio CD and
regular CD data.
When a hybrid Super Audio CD is loaded and when the
playback is stopped, press the PLAY AREA button to select a
playback area.
< To change the playback area, press the MENU button for 2
seconds or more while playback is stopped.
< The setting described on page 12 allows you to determine
which layer will be first selected for playback (the priority
playback).
< If the "2ch/Multi ch" setting is set to "2ch", the 2 channel
area is selected when a 2 channel/multi channel hybrid disc is
loaded. If the "2ch/Multi ch" setting is set to "Multi ch", the
multi channel area is selected when a 2 channel/multi channel
hybrid disc is loaded.
< If the Super Audio CD 2-channel area is selected, "SACD
2ch" will be displayed and the L and R channel indicators will
light. If the Super Audio CD multi-channel area is selected,
"SACD Multi" will be displayed and all channel indicators will
light. If the CD area is selected, "CD Area" will be displayed
and the channel indicators will not light.

2ch/Multi ch

Press to select 2ch (2-channel stereo) or MULTI (multi-channel
surround) audio output.
2ch
This mode outputs 2-channel stereo sound.
If this is set to "2ch", the 2 channel area is selected when a 2
channel/multi channel hybrid disc is loaded. To select the
playback area, press the PLAY AREA button after the disc is
loaded.
During playback of multi-channel data on a Super Audio CD,
the multi-channel data is downmixed to stereo (front left and
right channels). (The DOWN MIX indicator on the display
lights.)
Select this mode to listen to 2-channel stereo.
Multi ch
This mode outputs discrete 5.1-channel audio.
If this is set to "Multi ch", the multi channel area is selected
when a 2 channel/multi channel hybrid disc is loaded. To
select the playback area, press the PLAY AREA button after
the disc is loaded.
Select this mode when the P-05 is used with three D-05 units
or with a multi-channel D/A converter and an i.LINK
connection. To select the playback area, press the PLAY AREA
button after the disc loaded.
< The "MULTI" indicator lights when "Multi ch" is selected.
< You cannot select the mode during playback.
