195. The dummy radial engine can be detailed using paint and
the supplied grey aluminum tubing supplied with your model.
Make sure to test any paints on the pieces trimmed from
the dummy radial to make sure they are compatible with the
plastic and paint used on the dummy radial.
196. Roughen the outside of the dummy radial engine and the
inside of the cowling where they contact each other. Clean
both using a paper towel and isopropyl alcohol to remove any
debris or oils for each. Use 5-minute epoxy mixed with micro
balloons to secure the dummy radial inside the cowling.
197. Fit the cowling to the fuselage. Trim the cowling as necessary
to fi t around the muffl er.
198. Cut four 1/2-inch (12mm) wide strips of card stock. Use low-
tack tape to attach the card stock to the fuselage, indicating
where the cowl mounting tabs are located on the fi rewall.
199. Attach the propeller to the engine. Position the cowling so
there is an equal distance between the propeller and cowling
as the propeller rotates through its movement. Use low-tack
tape to hold the cowl in position for the following steps.

200. Using the paper as a guide, use a drill and 3/32-inch (2.5mm)
drill bit to drill the holes for the cowl mounting screws.
Remove the tape from the cowl and the card stock once all
four holes have been drilled.
201. Remove the cowling and prepare the screw holes by
threading an M3 x 10 self-tapping screw into each hole.
Remove the screws and place a few drops of thin CA in each
hole to harden the surrounding wood. Allow the CA to fully
cure before proceeding.
202. Use a pin vise and 1/8-inch (3mm) drill bit to enlarge the
holes in the cowling for the mounting screws.
203. Attach the cowling to the fuselage using four M3 x 10
self-tapping screws. Tighten the screws using a #2 Phillips
screwdriver
 Use care when trimming the cowling for the needle
valve extension. Start with a small hole and enlarge
it slowly to ensure it has been located correctly.
204. Secure the propeller to the engine using the spinner nut. Use
a hex wrench or hardened wire to tighten the spinner nut.
