15.3.1 Product description

The SmartStart allows a generator with auto-start to be
controlled by the PSk2 system.
The SmartStart is connected to the PSk2 controller via a
supplied custom cable with plugs on both ends. The cable
provides power and signalling between the PSk2 and
SmartStart.
Depending on how you configure the PSk2 the system will
switch the generator on and off.
Inside the SmartStart housing is a space for an NP-12
battery. The battery is charged by the PSk2 during normal
solar or grid operation. The battery provides power to the
PSk2 logic boards to allow control of the whole system even
during night time or when a generator is switched off. An
example of why the battery is required would be for a 02:00
(2am) start of pumping.
A second output (ancillary) is provided on the SmartStart
which allows ancillary equipment to be switched.

15.3.2 Generator compatibility

In order to use this feature the generator must have a two
wire auto start function, the SmartStart provides a poten-

requirement is triggered.
